CAD Technician

Tracy, CA

Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE:

Develop detailed technical drawings and maintain the site's engineering documentation, including equipment designs, process and instrumentation drawings
(P&IDs), process piping, utilities, electrical, refrigeration, and plant layout drawings. Responsible for AutoCAD drafting, engineering document control,
Autodesk Vault administration, drawing revisions, field verification, and maintenance of accurate as-built records, including but not limited to additional
engineering support tasks. The role actively supports small capital and reliability projects that improve safety, productivity, quality, and cost. The position
manages the engineering drawing library and provides technical drafting support to Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and contractors. Support
the two plant project engineers and other site customers through the activities outlined above.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The CAD Technician reports to the Plant Projects Manager and works closely with Plant Maintenance, Project Engineers, Process System, Operations
and contractors. The CAD Technician, by nature of their role, support the entire site and will also work closely with the Plant Maintenance Manager and
Maintenance Supervisors. The work environment is characterized by a 7 day per week, 24 hour per day operation and must effectively manage changing
priorities while maintaining accurate engineering documentation and timely project execution.

Pay Range: $32.00 - $36.50/hour.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and revise AutoCAD drawings including P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment layouts, utility drawings, piping, instrumentation, electrical, 
    refrigeration, and plant layouts.
  • Maintain Autodesk Vault, engineering drawing files, revision history, document control, transmittals, and the master drawing register.
  • Perform field verification of equipment and piping systems and maintain accurate as-built documentation.
  • Maintain CAD standards, title blocks, templates, layer standards, page connector standards, and drawing numbering conventions
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) by maintaining P&IDs, Management of Change (MOC) documentation, and implementing drawing updates 
    resulting from PHAs and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare engineering drawing packages for maintenance and capital projects.
  • Coordinate contractor drawing submissions, redlines, approval drawings, and project closeout documentation.
  • Lead small capital and reliability projects including scope development, obtaining quotations, coordinating contractors, procurement support, scheduling, 
    field execution, startup, and project closeout under the direction of the Plant Projects Manager.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Analyze and provide recommendations to reduce/minimize a safety risk in the plant
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal customers while delivering accurate and timely engineering documentation.

The incumbent will be encouraged to make contact with similar roles at other Leprino sites as knowledge gained and relationships built through the effective interface with these co-workers and corporate personnel will be essential for long-term success. Performance in the position can best be measured by accuracy and output of technical documents produced as well as improvements realized by the site through the individual's project assignments. To be effective in this role, the incumbent must be knowledgeable of all plant production processes and manufacturing equipment in order to efficiently analyze and make improvements as needed through their project work. Specific knowledge and skill requirements in order to effectively perform in this position include a high school diploma, two-year degree in technical field, and two years of related design/project experience in a manufacturing environment (food industry preferred) supplemented by appropriate training in AutoCAD/Inventor. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma required.
  • Associate degree in Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related technical field preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and standard engineering documentation practices.
  • Must be able to meet shift/schedule requirements
  • Must be willing to work necessary Overtime as needed
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend basic English language
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions of position with or without reasonable accommodation 

DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Tangible skills and experience:

  • Proficiency utilizing AutoCAD and Inventor; Autodesk Vault experience preferred
     Mechanical and electrical aptitude and strong comprehension of spatial relations
  • Strong mathematical aptitude
  • Knowledge of sanitary design principles and industrial manufacturing practices.
  • Previous maintenance experience a plus (technician, supervisor)
  • Two-year associate's degree in related field (drafting and design, engineering technology, industrial maintenance or similar)
  • Two years of related work experience (drafting, maintenance, engineering)
  • Previous experience in a food manufacturing or other GMP environment a plus
  • Exposure to and understanding of lean manufacturing principles (5s, Kaizen, value stream mapping, mistake proofing, quick changeover, visual controls, etc)
