Job description

Job Summary:
Slate Auto is focused on building safe and reliable vehicles that people can afford and personalize. They are seeking a detail-oriented Validation Engineer responsible for the verification and validation of vehicle telematics systems, including mobile application interfaces and vehicle communication protocols.
Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for vehicle telematics systems, including mobile application interfaces, vehicle ECU communication, and cloud / server integrations.
• Perform functional, regression, integration, and system-level validation of vehicle-side telematics components and mobile application connectivity features (Android and iOS).
• Validate connectivity features including remote access, diagnostics, and Flash Over-The-Air (FOTA) updates against defined requirements.
• Develop and maintain test environments, test benches, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setups to simulate real-world vehicle and network conditions.
• Identify, document, and track software and system defects through to resolution using defect management workflows.
• Provide clear, reproducible bug reports with supporting logs, traces, and network captures to accelerate root cause analysis.
• Report validation status, test coverage metrics, and risk assessments to cross-functional stakeholders and program leadership.
• Collaborate with systems and software engineers to clarify requirements and ensure alignment between design intent and test criteria.
• Engage with third party hardware and software suppliers to define acceptance criteria, execute joint validation activities, and verify supplier deliverables.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer engineering, Computer or Information Science, or related degree.
• 5 years of experience in software or systems validation, preferably in the automotive or connected devices domain.
• Hands-on experience testing mobile applications (Android and/or iOS)
• Experience with automotive communication protocols (CAN-FD, UDS) and familiarity with diagnostic tools such as CANoe and CANalyzer.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to root cause analysis and defect isolation.
• Ability to write clear, concise, and thorough test documentation including test plans, test cases, and validation reports.
