Job description

Location: Remote

Job Description 

We are seeking an experienced Data Migration Engineer to support a Federal client in migrating enterprise data platforms from Snowflake to AWS Cloud services. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Snowflake data extraction, AWS data lake and analytics services, and secure data migration methodologies aligned with Federal compliance standards. 

This role involves designing, executing, and validating large-scale data migrations while ensuring data integrity, security, performance, and compliance with Federal regulations. 
 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Design and implement end-to-end data migration strategies from Snowflake to AWS cloud platforms 

  • Extract data from Snowflake using COPY INTO, Snowflake stages, and secure data sharing mechanisms 

  • Migrate data to AWS services including Amazon S3, Redshift, Athena, RDS/Aurora, and Glue Data Catalog 

  • Develop and optimize data pipelines using AWS Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, and Python 

  • Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks post-migration 

  • Convert Snowflake schemas, tables, views, and data types to AWS-compatible formats 

  • Implement incremental and batch migration strategies using Snowflake Streams and Tasks 

  • Ensure compliance with Federal security and data governance standards (FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST) 

  • Optimize data formats (Parquet/ORC) for cost, performance, and scalability 

  • Collaborate with cloud architects, security teams, and stakeholders to meet project milestones 

  • Create technical documentation, migration runbooks, and operational guides 

  • Monitor migration jobs and resolve performance, data consistency, or failure issues 

  • Support post-migration testing, optimization, and production cutover activities 

Required Skills & Qualifications 

Technical Skills 

  • Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake (data unloading, stages, file formats, performance tuning) 

  • Experience migrating data to AWS Cloud, including: 

  • Amazon S3 

  • Amazon Redshift 

  • AWS Glue (ETL & Data Catalog) 

  • AWS Athena 

  • Proficiency in SQL and Python 

  • Experience with data formats: Parquet, ORC, CSV, JSON 

  • Knowledge of AWS IAM, roles, policies, and secure access patterns 

  • Experience with large-scale data migration and data warehousing concepts 

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation for data workflows 

Compliance Requirements 

  • Experience working with Federal or Government clients 

  • Understanding of: 

  • FedRAMP

  • NIST 800-53 

  • Knowledge of data encryption (at rest and in transit) and audit logging 

  • Ability to follow government change management and documentation standards 

Preferred Qualifications
