Operating from across Canada at three Main Operating Bases, Gander NL, Greenwood, NS, and Comox, BC and headquartered in the Cormorant Support Centre in Halifax, NS, the program provides comprehensive, turnkey In-Service Support to Canada's Cormorant helicopters. This unique program provides the RCAF with a full suite of all levels of support to this critical 24/7/365 mission. 

Position Overview:

The Aviation Technician performs first and second line aircraft maintenance on the Cormorant Helicopter in support of our Canadian Search and Rescue operations.  Duties include servicing, inspection, removal, cleaning, repair, installation, adjustment, testing and certification (release) of aircraft mechanical, structural and electrical systems and components and ground support equipment.

What You Will Do:
  • Complete aircraft maintenance documentation for the electronic record keeping system (ERKS). 
  • Perform aircraft release (ARA) when assigned, and trained, qualified and authorized.
  • Ramp duties will include, but not be limited to, pre/post flight inspection and support, marshalling, parking, towing, fueling/defueling and installation/removal of required mission equipment and crash and emergency technical response.
  • Fly as necessary in support of maintenance, ferry and deployed operations.
  • Deploy and work at other main operating bases and/or deploy in support of operations at remote sites, mobile repair parties and ferry flights.
  • Work shift work, as required and/or assigned.
  • Provide on-job-training to other employees, including task supervision.
  • Attend training for trade and professional development and for qualification/certification purposes.
  • Remove all debris accumulated by tasks performed and maintain a clean, safe work area. Carry out foreign object debris (FOD) inspections.
  • Ensure hangar, shop, stores and office areas are clean and swept.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures and directives established by the Company.
  • Perform other tasks as may be required from time to time.
What You Will Bring:
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft systems, including, but not limited to, communications, navigation, radar, instruments and power generation and distribution systems.
  • Ability to operate test equipment in support of aircraft maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Record Keeping System (ERKS) procedures. 
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems.
  • Knowledge of corrosion control techniques. 
  • Capable of reading and interpreting technical documentation such as maintenance manuals, work packages, drawings, blueprints and Standard Plant Procedures. 
  • Capable of performing Non-destructive Inspection, where trained, qualified and authorized.
  • Ability to use standard computer programs and such specialized ones as may be necessary in the performances of the duties. 
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver s license to operate company vehicles and tow tractors. 
  • Graduate of a recognized aircraft maintenance course or apprenticeship program and hold a current Aircraft Maintenance Engineers license or be qualified as an aircraft aviation technician within the Canadian Armed Forces or equivalent commercial experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in helicopter maintenance is required. 
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian government security clearances.
