Job description

Description

We are ERock!

ERock is a leader and innovator in distributed energy. ERock has responded to long-term trends in electricity by becoming the first smart-grid supplier to US energy consumers. The company installs, operates, and integrates its highly flexible, low-cost, and quick-response distributed generation to increase reliability and stability, reduce costs and decrease carbon footprint.

At ERock, our backup generators ensure that customers will never be without power, allowing their business to operate normally when there is an outage in the area. Our innovative approach provides customers with highly reliable, ultra-clean backup generation at a fraction of the cost of traditional backup solutions. We seek those who share our commitment to customer service, innovation, and ingenuity.

Role Overview:

The Solutions Engineer serves as a technical lead in developing power system solutions for customer-facing proposals, owning system architecture, technical scope, and customer engagement from early-stage design through handoff to the execution team. This role focuses on microgrid and distributed generation systems, designing under real-world constraints of cost, reliability, and schedule.

This is a highly applied, customer-facing role for engineers with a strong foundation in electrical power systems who prefer system-level design over purely analytical work. Solutions Engineers lead technical discussions, conduct site visits, and develop single-line diagrams and system layouts, while clearly communicating complex concepts through structured documentation and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead development of microgrid and distributed generation solutions for customer proposals, including system architecture, equipment sizing, and technical scope.
  • Develop electrical system designs, including single-line diagrams, layouts, and medium/low voltage system configurations.
  • Perform and support power system evaluations (load, capacity, reliability) to inform design decisions.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface with customers, leading discussions, whiteboarding sessions, and presentations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, EPC, R&D, and product teams to develop optimized, executable solutions.
  • Prepare and communicate technical content for proposals, including drawings, narratives, and supporting documentation.
  • Evaluate design tradeoffs across cost, performance, constructability, and schedule.
  • Participate in site visits and customer engagements to validate design assumptions.
  • Conduct peer reviews to ensure quality and consistency of technical designs and estimates

Requirements

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
  • Strong foundation in low and medium voltage power systems, including generation.
  • Experience developing and interpreting electrical diagrams, including single-line diagrams and system layouts.
  • Ability to think at the system level and translate requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and manage competing priorities.
  • Physical requirements and working conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone/computer.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-5+ years (preferred) of experience in power systems, distributed generation, microgrids, or related fields.
  • Experience with power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, or reliability analysis.
  • Familiarity with power system modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD, PSS/E, MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Experience with electrical equipment design and layout, including switchgear and interconnection systems.
  • Understanding of protection schemes, relaying concepts, and system coordination.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design tools.
  • Experience supporting technical proposals, bids, or customer-facing engineering efforts.
  • Familiarity with RFP processes and working within defined commercial and technical constraints.
  • Exposure to utility interconnection, distributed energy resources (DER), or grid services.

What Sets This Role Apart:

  • Direct customer engagement and ownership of technical solutions - not just back-end design.
  • Work on mission-critical infrastructure with real-world impact on customers and the grid.
  • Exposure to the full lifecycle: concept - proposal - execution.
  • Highly collaborative environment with access to cross-functional technical teams.
  • Opportunity to develop both deep technical expertise and strong commercial/strategic engineering skills.
  • Exposure to large-scale, real-world energy infrastructure projects.
  • Career growth across engineering, commercial, and technical leadership paths.
  • Collaborative, engineering-driven culture with high visibility and impact.

Benefits:

Medical, Dental, Vision, and Prescription Drug Insurance

Company-Paid Life Insurance

Disability Insurance

Paid Family Leave

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

Health Savings Account (HSA)

Wellness Programs and Incentives

401(k) Retirement Plan & Company Match

Paid Time Off - Sick & Vacation Time

Paid Holidays

Hybrid Work Schedule (prefer Houston-based, ~3 days in office)

Cool Open-Office Concept
