Overview
Provide shoreside support to vessel crewmembers regarding all aspects of their operation.
Responsibilities
  • Vessel management: Selects, trains, evaluates, and supervises vessel managers and their subordinates. Builds crews based on experience and scheduling.
  • Compliance: Ensures vessels comply with company policies and governmental regulations.
  • Safety: Develops and implements policies and procedures to improve safety and efficiency. Ensures crews are qualified and sufficient in size, the proper equipment is on board, and the captain is doing their job.
  • Public relations: Maintains good relationships with all employees.
  • Navigation: Oversees navigation systems and ensures they are up to date.
  • Training: Participate and ensure all required training is up to date onboard vessels.
  • Budgeting: Ensures the vessel stays within budget.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoots vessel-based and crew issues.
  • Provide managerial oversight for all activities associated with the Vessel and crew performance of assigned vessels.
  • Represent Kirby at industry committee meetings and seminars.
  • Participate in incident response and review.
  • Attend and assist in internal and external audits of vessels.
  • Review, document, and respond to Sales, Traffic, and customer issues.
  • Participate in various meetings and training seminars.

  • Tankerman License and USCG Master of Towing License or equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Travel required.
  • On-call on a rotating basis.
