Job description

We are presently seeking Field Tester B Electric for an opening in the Batavia area. In addition to a starting wage of $39.62 per hour, we offer excellent benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, 401(k) plan, vacation, tuition assistance and more.

About the position:

The Field Tester B - Electric supports electric field testing activities under direct and general supervision. This position assists higher-classified Field Testers and progressively assumes more complex responsibilities as skills and proficiency develop. The role involves hands-on field work supporting meter installations, equipment testing, power quality investigations, and troubleshooting efforts across the electric distribution system. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical aptitude, computer proficiency, and a commitment to safety and customer service.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Assist higher-classified Field Testers in daily field operations.
  • Support installation and removal of CT-rated electric meters on single-phase and three-phase services.
  • Assist with testing, configuration, and troubleshooting of metering and recording equipment.
  • Support installation, removal, and reading of devices used for power quality investigations.
  • Assist in the use of specialized test equipment to locate cable faults and evaluate cable integrity.
  • Support stray voltage investigations and mitigation efforts.
  • Assist with configuring distribution line equipment for installation, including control programming, troubleshooting, and upgrades.
  • Respond to requests from various departments to support resolution of electrical system issues.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation using computer-based systems.
  • Promote a safe work environment by following established safety procedures and standards.
Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

Candidates must meet one of the following pathways:

  • Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Electrical Technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent training program.
  • Minimum of 36 credits toward an AAS or AOS degree in Electrical Technology and at least 3 years of applicable field experience.
  • Employees hired under the credit + experience pathway must complete their degree within 24 months of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy.
  • Must pass a validated aptitude test.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn.
Career Progression:
  • Promotion to Field Tester C - Electric after 12 months of satisfactory performance.
  • Progression from Field Tester C to D over 18 months based on demonstrated proficiency.
  • Progression from Field Tester D to E over a 24-month period contingent on performance.

Salary:

  • $39.62/Hr
