Job Summary
Medical Laboratory Scientist are responsible for testing patient specimens, ensuring accuracy of test, and communicating results to providers
Reports to: Supervisor, Medical Laboratory
Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Prepare specimens for testing
• Test patient specimens, establishing and ensuring acceptable levels of QC are maintained
• Responsible for ensuring requirements of the CAP, AABB, DNV, and FDA (as applicable to section/shift) are followed and in compliance
• Ensure equipment is operational by performing equipment maintenance, calibrating, and troubleshooting
• All other duties assigned related to the medical laboratory
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree
Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
N/A
Skills and Abilities
• Understands and can articulate correct procedures to accurately identify patients, label specimens, and verify there is adequate sampling for the testing ordered
• Proficient use of computer peripherals
• Clear communicator; Speak, read, and write English fluently
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position has much interaction with nursing staff and other hospital departments
Physical Capabilities
Medical Laboratory Scientist I can expect to stand for long periods of time and walk frequently. This position also requires frequent stooping, sitting, reaching, bending and kneeling. The incumbent may also be required to carry items up to 50 pounds. Near visual and color acuity is required.

This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures and minimal exposure to cleaning, staining, and testing chemicals
