Job description

I. General Information

a. Department: IT/IS

b. Location: Findlay, OH

c. Job Code: ITNET

d. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

e. Reports To: IT/IS Manager

f. Reporting to This Position: N/A


II. General Summary (describes the overall duties of the position)

a. The network engineer performs the day-to-day operations and support of the datacenter networks. This position will perform tier-2 escalation support and must possess experience in the operations and support of large-scale LAN/WAN systems.


III. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (describes the duties and responsibilities for a successful job performance).

a. Tier-2 escalation support

b. Hands-on technical support related to the overall health and maintenance of the network environments in support of 24/7 operations

c. Support for network design and configuration tasks

d. Initial support for the design and implementation of the datacenter networks with continued support into 24x7 operations

e. Operations support of the datacenter networks to include WAN/LAN troubleshooting, network security, routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, and servers

f. Daily monitoring of overall network health and status, to include the identification and troubleshooting of network performance and/or capacity issues across multiple security domains

g. Working with other support personnel, as well as entity support personnel to isolate network anomalies and identify a corrective action plan prior to impacting operational availability

h. Network analysis to ensure networks meet or exceed design requirements, perform trend analysis to identify potential problems, and review available throughput levels

i. Plan and execute the installation and configuration of network changes


IV. REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE (These are the traditional minimum, or required, bona-fide occupational qualifications and other requirements of most people in this job).

a. Associate’s Degree in a computer science or related field OR equivalent experience

b. Two plus year in related Computer Science or related field

c. Two plus years in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)


V. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES (These are needed to perform essential functions of the position).

a. MCSE/MCITP Certification or equivalent knowledge

b. Security+ Certification

c. Minimum five years of experience that includes network operational support, hands-on implementation and configuration of network devices such as servers, switches, routers, firewalls, NICs, associated software tools and desktop computers in a LAN/WAN environment.

d. Knowledgeable of MS Windows Server, MS Exchange, MS Office products, VMware, PC hardware and terminology.

e. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to diagnose and fix hardware and software issues for both desktops and servers in a LAN/WAN environment.

f. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with all levels of professional staff and executives. An ability to work independently and as a team member.

g. Must have a sociable demeanor, capable of building and maintaining lasting relationships with co-workers and clients.

h. Experience with configuration and maintenance of Cisco hardware

i. Design or operations experience with encryptors, tunnels, load balancers, SSL offloading, & firewalls

j. Practical knowledge of SNMP, TACACS, LACP,TCP, NTP, DHCP, DNS, VTP, and routing protocols.

a. This position is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the company network and infrastructure. If this is not done well, possible results could include user downtime, equipment downtime, shipment delays impacting the customers and the excessive costs that come with any of the above.

b. This position is responsible for the procurement, deployment and maintenance of the company’s network and business system applications. If this is not done well, possible results could include non-compliance of licensing, user downtime, equipment downtime, shipment delays impacting on the customers and the excessive costs that come with any of the above.


VII. Working Conditions (describes the working environment)

a. First-floor, open office work environment.

b. Low probability of physical harm to associates in this environment.

c. Frequent travel may be necessary during system implementations.


VIII. Physical Requirements

a. Must be able to climb stairs several times a day due to frequency of work and meetings schedules.

b. May occasionally require movement around or behind manufacturing equipment.

c. May need to walk long distances within a manufacturing plant.
