Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Information Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is seeking candidates to fill openings for its graduate assistant positions, adjunct hires, and other ad hoc hires. Evergreen requisitions provide a pool of candidates for consideration for filling multiple job openings or for filling positions that may become available later during the year. Our main need for Teaching Assistants occurs at the start of each semester while Research Assistants positions become available whenever a faculty receives a grant with funding to support that position. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy
Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Graduate Degree or currently admitted to one of the following graduate degree program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock:

    • MS or PhD in Bioinformatics;

    • MS in Information Science or PhD in CIS Information Science;

    • MS in Information Quality or PhD in CIS Information Quality;

    • MS in Computer Science or PhD in CIS Computer Science;

    • MS in Engineering or PhD in Engineering Science and Systems.

Preferred Qualifications - Special consideration will be given to candidates with experiences in the following areas:

  • Programming in languages such as Python or Java for Desktop, Server Side Web Apps, or Cloud;

  • Web Design and Development Skills involving HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;

  • IT Infrastructure knowledge including hardware, operating systems, networks, and cloud computing;

  • Database Development and Writing SQL Queries (e.g., Oracle, MS SQL Server);

  • Project Management, System Development Life Cycle Experience;

  • Data Wrangling, Statistics, Data Mining, and Machine Learning;

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching Assistants serve in an instructional capacity for courses within the Department of Information Science, which typically include the following duties and responsibilities under the supervision of an Information Science faculty member. Examples of job duties include:

    • Attend class sessions;

    • Serve as an assistant in laboratory activities

    • Lead a class activity such as a discussion group or demonstration;

    • Hold Office House, Tutor students, Respond to email questions from students;

    • Proctor examinations;

    • Grade tests and papers;

    • Assist with development and evaluation of instructional materials.

  • Research Assistants serve in a research capacity for projects within the Department of Information Science which typically include the following duties and responsibilities under the supervision of an Information Science faculty member.

    • Develop work plans in accordance with research objectives;

    • Assist in the collection of data and/or conduct independent research specific to the research project

    • Perform development work for the project;

    • Depending on the needs of the project, development work could include statistical analysis, data mining, programming, database, web design and development, system analysis, or tech support;

    • Conduct testing, implementation, and evaluation of project deliverables;

    • Coordinate project meetings and lead project discussions;

    • Prepares reports and publications as needed

    • Assist in other specialized administrative, technical, or editorial duties connected to the research project.

  • Knowledge of higher education teaching principles and practices;

  • Knowledge of higher education research principles and practices;

  • Skill in planning, organization, coordination of activities;

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective team working relationships;
