Job Description:
The Bowie State University Department of Computer Science invites applications for a full-time, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position, starting Fall 2025. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative individual with a strong commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will join a vibrant and growing department and is expected to contribute to both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Responsibilities:
  • Research: Establish and maintain an active research program that attracts external funding and leads to publications in high-quality journals and conferences indexed in prestigious citation databases. Applicant must show the potential to establish a quality research program and to collaborate effectively with other faculty.
  • Teaching: Assist in the education mission of the department, teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in computer science, advise and mentor students, and supervise research projects.
  • Service: The candidate is expected to provide academic service as requested by the Chair of the Department participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including curriculum development and outreach.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Required:
    Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
    Strong research potential to build and sustain a robust research program that secures external funding and produces high-impact, peer-reviewed publications or comparable scholarly accomplishments.
    A commitment to quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
    Anticipated completion of Ph.D. no later than June 2025 is acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring.
    Experience in securing external research funding.
    Ability to collaborate across disciplines and engage in interdisciplinary research.
    Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia.
