What we're looking for:

The Process Control Engineer SME supports unit operations by maintaining and enhancing process control applications and assets; provides expertise to support the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation of the processing units across the region and licensing process designs.

Key Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develops and provides subject matter expertise in the effective use of batch controls and batch manager.
  • Maintains and updates the control narratives, complex control logic and process safety system narratives for licensing process design packages.
  • Provides Design support for Licensing Process Design Packages. Provides direct support for Detailed Design and Startup of DCS and SIS systems including Site Acceptance Tests, Factory Acceptance Tests and Plant commissioning and Startup.
  • Mentors other process control engineers across the division.
  • Coordinates with APC engineers to ensure the smooth functioning of the controls, the advanced controls and the appropriate shedding control schemes when APC is turned off.
  • Identifies and implements solutions to improve plant performance.
  • Relieve other process control engineers for vacation or other absences.
  • Participate on Six Sigma teams to evaluate and implement identified projects
  • Facilitate compliance with alarm system management policies and standards, for assigned process units. This may include leadership of the operational review meetings, and activities to rationalize alarm settings and priorities to meet KPI targets.
  • Participate in the plant and vertical Personal and Process Safety activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate procedures and guidelines.Complete annual required training on time.

Educational and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Preferred bachelor's degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering. Other qualifications in Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science will be considered when paired with experience with Process Control applications.
  • Prefer that candidate have experience with Batch Operations and Batch management. Must have relevant process control experience in the petrochemical or refining process industries. Prefer 10+ years' experience in Process Control or Process Engineering environment.
  • Preferred familiarity with either Emerson Delta-V or Foxboro I/A distributed control system (DCS). Experience with a commercial DCS system commonly used in the petrochemical processes is a must.
  • Experience with process engineering in an operating environment.
  • Aptitude with computerized applications.
  • Requires 10-20% travel of which up to half may be International travel.
