Job description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Mechanical Summer Student  to join our Mining & Minerals team in Oakville, Ontario who will apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to the organization's products and services. The Student will plan, schedule and conduct technically engineering assignments requiring judgment, independent evaluation, selection and significant adaptation and deviation from standard techniques and procedures. 

Key Responsibilities:

Engage in tasks related to the one or more than one of the following engineering subjects:

  • Basic physical sciences 
  • Statics and dynamics
  • Strength of materials and solid mechanics
  • Materials engineering, composites
  • Structures and Materials
  • Thermodynamics, heat transfer, energy conversion, and HVAC
  • Fluid mechanics (including fluid statics and fluid dynamics)
  • Instrumentation and measurement
  • Hydraulics and Pneumatics
  • Engineering design and product design
  • Drafting, computer-aided design (CAD)
  • Coordinating work with other related discipline engineers and designers
  • Working closely with supervisor and checkers from start to completion of tasks/projects and in a team environment with other disciplines
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management
Skills / Qualifications
  • 3rd Year Engineering Student, Mechanical Discipline 
  • Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills
  • Authorization to work lawfully in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
  • Knowledge of Excel, AutoCAD, MS Office
  • ***This is a Summer Position, relocation assistance or living allowances will not be provided for this position.
  • Candidate must live within reasonable commuting distance from Oakville, ON office or be willing to relocate and live in Oakville area at own expense
