Job description

Job DescriptionDepartment:Computer Sciences - JMPay Rate Type:HourlyEmployee Type:Job Summary:Professor Chowdhury is hiring a research assistant to work on a 3 month long project (July 1 - September 30).
We are seeking a student worker with Materials Physics and Electronics background who will engage in a collaborative research project on AI for scientific discovery.
The student will investigate building an AI model of maximum heat transfer in quantum materials. This project will enable efficient cooling for AI hardware, reducing the energy demand for current cooling technology for the AI infrastructures and data centers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist faculty members with research projects

Gather data and engage in a range of analysis

Prepare graphs and Powerpoint slides as needed to support presentation activities

Work with faculty and staff on manuscript publication and other dissemination

Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

QUALIFICATIONS:

SCIENCES

First and second-year students with appropriate knowledge and experience with laboratory procedures and standard equipment

Ability to work independently and safely in a research laboratory

OTHER

Enrolled in or have completed appropriate coursework in the research area

Strong computer, research, and library skills

Attention to detail and accuracy

Follow all safety protocols

Willingness to learn

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

This position has significant interaction with faculty members.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Laboratory environment. General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Occasional lifting is required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
