Computer Science Remote Internships information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computer Science Remote Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Science Remote Intern, you typically need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, algorithms, and data structures, often supported by ongoing or completed coursework in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, collaboration tools such as Slack or Zoom, and exposure to languages like Python, Java, or JavaScript are highly valuable. Strong self-motivation, time management, and effective written communication skills help interns excel in remote environments. These abilities enable interns to contribute effectively to distributed teams, manage projects independently, and adapt to rapidly changing technical tasks.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during a remote computer science internship, and how will I collaborate with my team?

As a remote computer science intern, you'll typically work on real-world software development projects such as coding new application features, debugging existing code, or contributing to open-source initiatives. Communication and collaboration usually take place through tools like Slack, GitHub, and video conferencing platforms, allowing you to participate in daily stand-ups, code reviews, and team meetings. You may be paired with a mentor or work within a small agile team, gaining exposure to industry-standard development practices and collaborative workflows. While managing your own tasks independently is important, you'll also have regular check-ins and opportunities to ask questions, ensuring you remain connected and supported throughout the internship.

What are computer science remote internships?

Computer science remote internships are work opportunities for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in computer science while working from a location outside of a traditional office, typically from home. Interns collaborate with teams online, using digital tools to complete tasks such as coding, software development, data analysis, or technical support. These internships provide valuable exposure to real-world projects, industry practices, and professional networking, all without the need to relocate. Remote internships are especially popular in tech fields where much of the work can be done online. They often offer flexibility in schedules and are available with companies around the world.

About us
We're on a mission to bring contracts and any other long documents to the 21st century!
We're using AI to make these documents intelligible, abstracting what matters in them and detailing their content so that humans can manipulate them easily.
We've been working on this since the beginning of 2021, and have applications in Real Estate, Finance, Insurance, and other industries. Today, we're growing fast and excited for new teammates to join us who are the best at what they do. We're passionate about building a company as diverse and creative as possible.
Position Description
At Zenlaw, we rely on data to guide our initiatives. This data helps to mold both our long-term strategy and our day-to-day operations. As a Data Scientist, you will be working with our engineering team to model complex problems and identify high-impact opportunities. You will be part of a high-energy, fast-paced team responsible for supporting initiatives and working on our ground-breaking AI models.
Our full-stack Data Science Team uses Python for research and development. Our wide range of experience includes NLP, SpaCy, Transformers, and PyTorch recommendation systems, supervised and unsupervised problems. As part of the team, you are free to use the approach you see fit while relying on your colleague's previous experience and expertise.
As a Data Scientist, you will:
  • Research new techniques and frameworks for NLP tasks
  • Design new experiments for data abstraction and categorization of sentences/paragraphs
  • Work with our lawyers to review initial results and implement pre and post-processing scripts to improve the accuracy of models
  • Run data analysis on our dataset to design potential rules for annotation.
  • Improve the architecture of data modeling and data tooling in partnership with Engineering and cross-functional business partners
  • Own your projects and use this autonomy to find creative and innovative ways of solving problems and delivering solutions.
We are looking for a passionate Data Scientist with:
  • Bachelor in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field; graduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or another quantitative field
  • 2+ years of industry work experience as an analyst, data scientist, or equivalent
  • Experience with training and deploying NLP deep learning models
  • Exceptional skills in Python, SQL, and any other programming language for data analysis and visualization.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills with experience evangelizing the value of leveraging data in making both strategic and product decisions
  • Experience with reporting systems and data pipeline architecture.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving experience with the ability to break down complex and unstructured problems into layman's terms
  • An online sample of your analytical and/or data visualization abilities is greatly appreciated.
    Nice to have:

    • Experience with SpaCy, Transformers, PyTorch, or similar NLP framework
    • Experience working with ontologies and knowledge graphs
    • Experience in MLOps

  • Helping others: sharing knowledge with your colleagues is on top of your priorities
  • Fast-paced startups: you love adapting to different situations, and you know how and when to iterate fast and with high quality
