Posting Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the Child Health Institute of NJ at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Associate will be responsible for the design, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of experiments regarding the study of molecular mechanisms of the regulation of synaptic transmission in mammalian brain and human neurons derived from human tissue. In addition, the postdoc will perform molecular, cellular and/or electro-physiological experiments.
The Postdoc will participate in lab meetings, research in progress seminars, and presentations at conferences. The Postdoctoral Associate will prepare manuscripts based on their research, aid in developing the PI's grant applications, and will apply for personal grant funding.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, will perform whole-cell patch clamp electrophysiology in brain slices and cell cultures.
  • Performs behavioral tests in mice.
  • Performs in vivo 2p imaging in head-fixed mice.
  • Compiles and analyzes data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations in support of further CHI research.
  • Communicates with the PI and present the data in a timely manner.

  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Applicant should be highly motivated, independent, have excellent organizational skills, and be able to work collaboratively and independently under the guidance of the PI.
  • Must have a high level of research competency, knowledge, and skills to perform duties assigned by the PI.
  • Must be able to assist in daily lab management, including training and direct oversight of personnel and students.
  • Must have at least one first-author publication in peer-reviewed journals in biology-relevant fields.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with brain slice patch-clamp recordings and optical imaging.
  • Excellent writing skills with experience in writing grants, fellowships, manuscripts, or scientific reports.
