Job Description - Fulfillment of Mission
The Roger Bacon Academy is an education management organization that manages multiple charter schools in southeastern North Carolina including Classical Charter Schools of Leland, located in Leland, NC. Classical Charter Schools of Leland is always seeking outstanding applications for future openings for Teacher Assistants. The position of Teacher Assistant reports to the Headmaster. This position is a 10-month position that follows the school academic calendar.

Teacher Assistant - Job Responsibilities
Purpose:
To assist the Content Teacher in successfully preparing students with the knowledge and strategies they will need in order to master the curriculum and achieve a passing score on standardized tests. To also help students learn skills that will contribute to their social development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach a resource class (i.e. art, p.e., music, computer lab).
Assist with morning drop off and afternoon pickup.
As students arrive, encourage promptness in unpacking their backpack, turning in homework, turning in notes to teacher and hot lunch money.
Communicate with parents as needed.
Accompany student to the office to take temperature or to call parent if the student is not feeling well.
Monitor behavior on the playground during recess.
Grade papers and record grades in the grade book at the direction of the teacher.
Process hot lunch money and order hot lunch on a weekly basis.
Process paperwork and money for field trips.
Process paperwork for school pictures, income surveys, immunization forms, and various other items that have been sent home for information and returned.
Monitor students during class time to ensure they are on task and focused on the lesson being given.
Assist students as needed with class work assignments.
Encourage and reward positive behavior.
Make copies of various items needed for instruction.
Share responsibility with teacher of vacuuming the classroom and taking out the trash.
Substitute in other classrooms of the same grade or a different grade as requested by the office or trainers.
Monitor students during assemblies.
Share responsibility with teacher to ensure all children are evacuated and accounted for during a fire drill.
Share responsibility with teacher to ensure all children are in proper posture and accounted for during a tornado drill.
Share responsibility with teacher to ensure all safeguards are in place during a lock down.
Share responsibility with teacher to alert maintenance of items that need attention in the classroom/playground.
Share responsibility with teacher to ensure that all items are completed on checklists for the classroom, given before all breaks and at the end of the school year.
Attend required training.
Remain flexible and positive for any given assignment.
Qualifications
The Teacher Assistant will have the following experience and attributes:
An Associate's degree or proof of completion of at least two years of college credits in any field is required; focus in education and early childhood development desired.
Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
Ability to perform clerical duties.
Ability to operate common office machines.
Ability to maintain basic files and records.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitates by work assignments.
