What is a Computer Science MBA?

A Computer Science MBA is a graduate program that combines advanced studies in computer science with business administration and management training. This dual-focus degree is designed to equip students with both the technical expertise required in the tech industry and the leadership, strategy, and management skills necessary for business roles. Graduates are prepared for careers that bridge technology and business, such as technology management, product management, or executive positions in tech-driven companies. The curriculum typically includes courses in programming, data analytics, software development, as well as finance, marketing, and organizational behavior. This unique combination opens doors to leadership positions where both technical and business acumen are essential.

How does a Computer Science MBA role typically bridge technical and business teams within an organization?

Professionals in Computer Science MBA roles often act as a crucial link between technical development teams and business units. They translate business objectives into technical requirements and ensure that technical solutions align with strategic goals. This collaboration involves frequent meetings, project management, and problem-solving across functions, making strong communication and cross-disciplinary understanding essential. As organizations increasingly rely on technology-driven strategies, these roles offer significant opportunities for career advancement into leadership and executive positions.

Job description

Want to help plan, build, and deliver one of the world's most secure, extensive, and reliable cloud platforms? AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking a passionate, talented, and proven leader to join the Global Network Delivery team and drive systematic improvements in network capacity delivery across our inter-datacenter infrastructure.
As the Principal Technical Program Manager for Inter-Datacenter Network Capacity Delivery, you are responsible for owning the end-to-end program to systematically reduce defects and improve reliability across the network capacity delivery lifecycle. This role addresses the critical challenges of delivery unconstrained bandwidth to support rapid customer growth.
Job responsibilities include establishing and driving the capacity delivery reliability program for new datacenter spans and scaling bandwidth between existing datacenters. You will define and track input and outcome metrics spanning project planning, dependencies accuracy, initiation, hardware delivery timeliness, position readiness, cabling reliability, and end-to-end lead time reduction. Key programs include implementing process instrumentation to identify defect sources, establishing root cause analysis frameworks, and driving cross-functional initiatives to address systemic issues. You will partner with planning automation teams to increase forecast accuracy and reduce planning bugs, work with supply chain organizations to improve supportability signal integration, and collaborate with infrastructure teams to implement systems that preserve design intent and eliminate data loss between systems.
The ideal candidate demonstrates principal-level capabilities in program management, systems thinking, and organizational influence. They will have the ability to define complex, multi-quarter programs with measurable business impact, establish metrics frameworks that drive behavior change across multiple organizations, and influence senior technical and business leaders without direct authority. They will be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, have a bias for action while paying careful attention to detail, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
We're looking for someone who has demonstrated prior successes in reliability engineering principles, defect prevention methodologies, and data-driven decision making. The position demands expertise in translating technical constraints into business impact and driving alignment across organizations with competing priorities. Required partnerships span Network Planning and deployment, Infra Planning, Global Network Delivery, Supply Chain, Metro Fiber, Datacenter Engineering, Infrastructure Software teams, and business stakeholders. Some background (educational or professional experience) in computer science, network engineering, or management information systems is preferred.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent, or experience in network and operating system support
- 5+ years of data center or network capacity planning, data center or network infrastructure program/project management, or related technical experience
- 5+ years of working cross functionally across several teams experience, or a MBA and 4+ years of program or project management experience
- Experience in site reliability engineering (SRE), systems engineering, systems administration, DevOps, security administration, or network administration
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree, or a PhD and experience working in a large-scale networking environment
- 7+ years of cloud based solution (AWS or equivalent), system, network and operating system experience, or Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, computer science, data science, engineering, or other related field
- Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship
- Experience with automation and any version control tools, or experience in software development and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
