General Summary
Under supervision, the intern performs a variety of patient care duties tailored to individual age and developmental needs, assisting with daily living activities and clinical tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care including hygiene assistance such as bathing, hair care, oral hygiene, and grooming.
- Deliver skin care while preventing breakdown and assist with physical activities like repositioning, ambulation, range of motion exercises, and transfers.
- Support nutritional needs by preparing patients for meals, assisting with feeding, monitoring intake, and adhering to dietary restrictions.
- Collect specimens, perform vital signs, and document intake and output accurately.
- Perform specialized care such as sit baths, postmortem care, application of compression devices, and wound management.
- Lead and participate in performance improvement initiatives, fostering teamwork and employee engagement.
- Carry out technical nursing procedures within credentialed scope, including oxygen therapy management, catheter insertion/removal, intravenous therapy discontinuation, suctioning, dressing changes, injections, and NG tube care.
- Conduct patient assessments and collaborate closely with primary nurses to ensure quality care.
- Educate patients and families in coordination with nursing staff.
- Maintain thorough and precise documentation of all care activities and patient status changes.
Education
Currently enrolled in a nursing program or completed nursing education but not yet licensed.
Experience
Entry-level position; no prior experience required.
