Summary Statement
The Public Works Climate Action intern will be responsible for assisting in a range of climate action projects aligning with the Boise Climate Action Roadmap goals. Their duties will include program design, implementation, and evaluation.
The City of Boise is exploring a citywide network of neighborhood centers - trusted, year-round community spaces that can also serve as coordination centers and resource hubs before, during, and after emergencies. This position will lead and plan community engagement efforts to inform decision making around neighborhood centers.
This is a grant-funded position and continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funds. Dates of employment: August 2026-July 2027.

Essential Functions
Lead community engagement activities to gather input and build relationships with residents and stakeholders (50%).
Plan and coordinate efforts that inform decision-making related to neighborhood centers (30%).
Support the development of neighborhood centers as trusted, year-round community spaces and emergency resource hubs (20%).

Requirements
Required Knowledge and Experience:
  • Experience or interest in environmental or climate studies
  • Interest and knowledge in project management, community partnerships and engagement
  • Familiar with environmental regulations, greenhouse gas emissions, and nature-based solutions
  • Ability to stay organized and work independently

Internship Requirements:
To be eligible for the City of Boise Internship Program, applicants must be:
  • Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong academic record or graduated in the last 12 months from an accredited university
  • Majoring in environmental studies/science, geosciences, environmental management, or related fields
  • Be able to work up to 20 hours per week.
  • Be able to commit to the entire internship program.
Licensing And Other Requirements
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.

  • City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation
  • Driving Record Check

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position.
