Summary of Job Duties:The Audiology Intern will provide supervised audiologic services to patients with hearing and balance disorders while completing the final year of a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program. Under the direct supervision of a licensed audiologist, the extern will participate in diagnostic evaluations, hearing rehabilitation services, cochlear implant services, vestibular assessments, and hearing aid management. The intern will also assist with clinic operations, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and process improvement initiatives to support efficient delivery of patient-centered care.Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled full-time in the UAMS Doctor of Audiology program

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and interpret complete balance evaluations using state-of-the-art Videonystagmography (VNG), and Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP).

  • Provide complete diagnostic hearing evaluations including tympanometry, acoustic reflex testing, air and bone-conduction threshold testing, and a battery of standard and specialized speech assessments.

  • Complete specialized diagnostic assessments, including aided threshold measures, AZ Bio sentence tests, and CNC word tests in soundfield, and interpret outcomes to make recommendations for cochlear implant candidacy.

  • Plan and coordinate hearing rehabilitation activities, including but not limited to: consultation, selection, and fitting of state-of-the-art hearing aids, cochlear implants, bone-anchored hearing aids, and assistive listening devices.

  • Perform verification of amplification devices in an on-ear, probe mic fashion, such as Speech Mapping/Real-Ear measurements.

  • Provide complete care for patients by servicing a wide range of hearing amplification devices, including troubleshooting and repairs.

  • Complete accurate and thorough chart notes and dictation in a timely manner.

  • Provide patient education of procedures to be performed

  • Manage incoming and outgoing shipments of hearing aids and supplies.

  • Maintains hearing aid inventory by checking in hearing aids upon arrival from the manufacturer and returning unwanted/unfit aids to the manufacturer.

  • Program new and repaired hearing aids and prepare new hearing aid fitting packages.

  • Maintain and record manufacturer paperwork. Restock supplies in clinic rooms and maintain supply inventory.

  • Evaluate equipment for repair. Complete minor hearing device repairs in the office.

  • Participate in ongoing hospital and clinical performance assessments and process improvement projects.

  • Ensure continual department performance improvement and assessment.

  • Create and revise work processes to enhance customer satisfaction and reduce waste.

  • Adhere to UAMS Code of Conduct and Departmental policies. Conduct professional Audiologic services in accordance with the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) Code of Ethics.

  • Adopt practices to improve work processes, enhance guest satisfaction, and reduce waste.

  • Serve as a resource person to support department members in the performing of duties.

  • Participate in professional/institutional advancement.

  • Actively participate in continuing education opportunities specific to the growth and advancement of the clinic and hospital.

  • Promotes a safe working environment by complying with department and institutional safety policies.

  • Observes safe work practices and provides input on safety issues.

  • Responds in emergency situations. Intervenes in unsafe situations by taking action.

  • Other duties may be assigned to this position.
