Normal NOW is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing gender equality, civic engagement, education, and community empowerment. We are seeking a motivated and community-minded Community Engagement & Nonprofit Operations Intern to support our mission while gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit leadership, event planning, advocacy, communications, and organizational operations.

Position Summary

The Community Engagement & Nonprofit Operations Intern will work closely with Normal NOW leadership to support community outreach efforts, membership engagement, volunteer coordination, special events, and day-to-day organizational operations. This internship offers meaningful real-world experience for students interested in nonprofit management, public service, communications, and community leadership.

Key ResponsibilitiesCommunity Engagement

• Assist with member recruitment, onboarding, and retention activities.
• Coordinate communications with volunteers and community supporters.
• Support outreach efforts with local organizations, sponsors, and community partners.
• Participate in voter registration, advocacy, and civic engagement initiatives.
• Help increase awareness of Normal NOW programs, events, and mission.

Event Planning & Program Support

• Assist in planning and executing community events, educational programs, and fundraising activities.
• Coordinate logistics, registrations, materials, and volunteer schedules.
• Support sponsor, vendor, and participant communication.
• Attend and assist with event setup, execution, and post-event evaluation.

Operations & Administration

• Maintain membership databases and organizational records.
• Assist with tracking sponsorships, donations, and community partnerships.
• Help organize procedures, documents, reports, and project materials.
• Support special projects and operational initiatives as assigned.
• Participate in committee meetings and organizational planning efforts as appropriate.

Communications & Marketing

• Draft and schedule social media content.
• Assist with newsletters, email communications, and promotional materials.
• Create content that highlights organizational impact, programs, and events.
• Help collect engagement data and support reporting efforts.

Desired Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree program at an accredited college or university.
• Strong interest in nonprofit leadership, community engagement, civic participation, women's advocacy, or public service.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with volunteers, board members, and community partners.
• Positive attitude, initiative, professionalism, and willingness to learn.

Normal NOW welcomes students seeking internship experiences for academic credit. Students should work with their academic advisor, internship coordinator, or career services office to determine credit eligibility through their institution.

Normal NOW is willing to:

• Complete internship agreements and learning plans.
• Provide supervision, mentorship, and regular performance feedback.
• Verify internship hours and responsibilities.
• Participate in evaluations and documentation required by academic programs.
• Collaborate with faculty advisors to support student learning objectives.

Students are responsible for initiating the academic credit approval process and ensuring any required paperwork is completed before the internship begins.

This is an unpaid internship intended to provide meaningful educational, professional development, and community engagement experience. Academic credit may be available through the student's college or university. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree program.
