Experience and Education
Bachelor's degree in physical or biological science or registered as Radiation Therapy Technologist, three (3) years clinical experience as Medical Dosimetrist, and certification as Medical Dosimetrist by American Association of Medical Dosimetrists within one (1) year of becoming Medical Dosimetrist II.
Job Duties
- Performs dosage calculations in patient's radiation therapy charts and verifies mathematical accuracy of all calculations.
- Performs manual or computerized planning of external beam treatments.
- Coordinates treatment simulations and tumor localizations, including Computed Tomography, for radiation therapy treatment planning.
- Supervises, performs, or assists in planning and fabrication of compensating filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices.
- Supervises, performs, or assists in planning or production of mold, casts, and other immobilization devices.
- Supervises technology staffing the implementation of treatment plan (correct use of treatment parameters).
- Provides technical assistance to Therapeutic Radiological Physicist, when requested, in radiation protection, qualitative and quantitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of radiation therapy equipment.
- Assists in application of specific methods of dosimetry (Ion chamber TLD, or film) to special clinical problems.
- Assists in intracavitary and interstitial sealed source procedures and performs subsequent manual and/or computer calculation of dose distributions of procedures.
- Keeps current on new treatment planning techniques, devices, and methods.
- Teaches applied aspects of dosimetry to technologists and Medical Dosimetrist I\'s as assigned. May be involved in clinical research of development and implementation of new techniques.
- Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
