Contractor - Sr Software Engineer - C++ (Open)

This position may be offered to a candidate authorized to work in the US for his/her/their stated employer, without any restrictions which would prevent the candidate from working on the proposed assignment for the duration of the assignment period.

(we don’t want someone with excess of 12 years of experience for this position!!! We would like to be able to convert the person to FTE but we can’t support higher than a Principal Engineer I salary).

EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Contractor - Sr Software Engineer in our Hughes Network Systems division. This candidate will possess C++ skills and be energetic, creative and team oriented to work on SATCOM products used in secure communications networks. The individual will be part of an engineering team that develops server-side software using latest tool chains from Atlassian in an agile software development environment. The position is based in our Gaithersburg, Maryland office.

Responsibilities
  • Software design, development, integration and support activities
  • Actively participate in software development and automated unit testing
  • Complete development tasks within agreed timebox
  • Analyze and resolve software issues
Requirements
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of software design and development experience in C++ and automated unit testing
  • 5+ years of experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python) and source control systems (e.g. Bitbucket)
  • 2+ years of experience of network protocols, messaging libraries and socket programming
  • Must be capable of obtaining and holding a U.S. government security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work on-site 5 days per week
  • No work from home permitted
  • Proficient in Multi-threaded application development and inter-process communication
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker containers
