Job description

Assists in the internal day-to-day operation of the relationship between the Building Trade and Industrial apprenticeship programs being served by Lake County service area. This includes facilitating enrollment and/or customizing course offerings to meet related education requirements for apprentices as well as journeyman upgrade training. This position will assist apprentices in accessing degree program requirements that are complementary to their apprenticeship instructional track.

Pay: $40,000 - $42,000 per year

Location: primary office location is East Chicago. Frequent travel to Crown Point and Gary may be required as well as occasional statewide travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Process applications for new Building Trade apprentices and journeypersons.

  • Data entry into relevant Ivy Tech systems for the Building Trade Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) program student enrollment for degree and certificate programs.

  • Enter registrations and grades for all apprenticeship students.

  • Monitor all apprentice students' courses ensuring they are progressing towards technical certificate and AAS degree.

  • Process graduation requests and follow-up communication with apprenticeship graduates. Prepare diplomas/graduation packets and other items for Building Trade graduation banquets.

  • In partnership with Registrar, run degree audits for apprentice students

  • Ensure grade rosters from the JATC programs are input into Ivy Tech systems in a timely manner for the grade recording process.

  • Assist the Apprenticeship Manager in the preparation and.

  • Participate in JATC Training Center orientations and graduations events, as needed.

  • Gather, process and submit annual DWD grant report to Systems Office.

  • Work closely with Senior Apprenticeship Coordinator ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Participate in JATC Training Center site visits which may include picking up records, i.e.: applications, grade packets, course evaluation forms.

  • Assist in maintaining quality management of student and apprenticeship services with a goal of maximum retention of students each semester.

  • Assist in the preparation of written communications to apprentices, representatives, students, staff, and other external partners.

  • Assist students and external partners with questions and problem solving with JATC partnership.

  • Attend Building Trade events that may extend outside of regular working hours.

  • Assist in daily operation of the office, i.e.: answering telephones, responding to emails, processing student and apprenticeship registrations, and database maintenance.

  • Explore new opportunities for growth in apprenticeship space including industry apprentices.

Education, Experience And Other Requirements:

  • An Associates of Applied Science in a business discipline is required, Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • 2-years of post-secondary education in a business discipline may be substituted for the AAS degree if documented education was in pursuit of a Bachelor's degree.

  • Must have demonstrated success with sales or developing assessments of needs.

  • Demonstrated management experience over multiple initiatives.

  • Must have analytical reasoning and independent problem-solving abilities.

  • Must possess excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills as well as computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Experience working with apprenticeship programs or journeyman credentials desirable.

  • A willingness and ability to travel is required.
