Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Scribe to assist our physicians and clinical providers in real-time with comprehensive medical documentation. This Part-Time position reports to the Clinical Manager of the assigned department. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of medical terminology, fast and accurate typing skills, and a commitment to maintaining smooth clinic flow while upholding exceptional patient privacy and documentation standards.
What You'll Do

Accompany providers into patient exam rooms to accurately record real-time medical histories, physical exams, physician notes, diagnoses, and treatment plans into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Document lab results, diagnostic imaging findings (e.g., OCT, VEP, MRI, EMG), and consultations as directed by the provider.
Prepare and organize patient charts prior to visits, verifying prior records, test results, and referral documentation are available.
Draft e-prescriptions, lab orders, diagnostic testing requests, and referral letters for provider review and signature.
Assist with tracking pending diagnostic test results and following up on outstanding clinical documentation.
Collaborate with physicians, medical assistants, and administrative staff to optimize clinic throughput and minimize patient wait times.
Ensure all documentation complies with HIPAA, OSHA, and federal/state healthcare regulations.
Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times.
Assist in training new scribe staff on EMR documentation protocols as requested.
Participate in required meetings, in-services, and continuing education to maintain competencies.
All other duties as assigned.
What You'll NeedMinimum Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Completion of coursework in Pre-Med, Health Sciences, Nursing, or Medical Assisting preferred.
Licensure / Certifications
Certified Medical Scribe Apprentice (CMSA) or Certified Medical Scribe Specialist (CMSS) preferred, but not required.
Current BCLS/CPR certification preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year of experience as a medical scribe, medical assistant, or transcriptionist preferred.
Strong background in neurology, pain management, or multi-specialty clinical environments is a plus; we will train a highly motivated candidate with strong medical terminology skills.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology (neurology/pain management terms preferred).
High typing proficiency (minimum 50-60 WPM recommended) with high accuracy.
Proficiency with EMR systems (e.g., eClinicalWorks, Epic, AthenaHealth) and basic computer operations.
Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently under provider supervision and handle confidential information discreetly.
Mental Requirements
Read, interpret, and accurately transcribe complex clinical interactions and provider dictations.
Communicate clearly and professionally with providers, clinical staff, and patients.
Apply critical thinking to synthesize patient information into structured clinical notes.
Focus and maintain high attention to detail over extended periods.
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, walking, and moving between exam rooms alongside providers.
Manual dexterity to operate laptops, tablets, and computer keyboards efficiently.
Corrected vision and hearing sufficient to observe patient exams and accurately transcribe dictation in real time.
Ability to lift/carry up to 15 pounds (laptops, charts, supplies).
Ability to work under high-volume clinic schedules and maintain efficiency under pressure.
