Associate Motor Repair Technician
Position Summary
We are seeking an Associate Motor Repair Technician to join our Motor Repair team. In this hands-on role, you will diagnose, repair, and remanufacture electric motors to meet original equipment specifications while ensuring the highest level of quality and customer satisfaction. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical expertise through on-the-job training while working alongside experienced technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electric motors to determine mechanical and electrical failures.
- Test, disassemble, inspect, repair, and remanufacture motors to original manufacturer specifications.
- Perform electrical and mechanical repairs using established procedures and quality standards.
- Operate diagnostic equipment and testing instruments to verify motor performance.
- Learn motor repair procedures and technical troubleshooting techniques through hands-on training.
- Work closely with supervisors and senior technicians to build technical knowledge and repair skills.
- Complete repair estimates, service documentation, and work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and testing systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Participate in annual physical inventory and maintain an organized work area.
- Follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work overtime as needed to support production and customer demands.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical/trade school education preferred.
- Six months to one year of experience in a machine shop, manufacturing, or industrial maintenance environment.
- Experience repairing mechanical or electrical equipment preferred.
- Previous electric motor repair experience is a plus.
- Basic understanding of:
- Mechanical systems, rotating equipment, bearings, and hand tools.
- Electrical theory, electric motors, generators, and semiconductors.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.
- Experience operating machine shop equipment, including a lathe, is preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions and repair procedures.
Equipment & Tools
Experience with or willingness to learn:
- Hand and power tools
- Diagnostic and electrical testing equipment
- Oscilloscopes and multimeters
- Bearing press and dial indicators
- Lathes, drills, saws, and cleaning equipment
- Overhead cranes and lifting devices
- Motor controls, drives, and power supplies
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical work throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate tools, machinery, and computer equipment.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise, and exposure to solvents used for cleaning motors and components.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other safety equipment as required.
