Job description

This role can be based in either the Merriam, KS Headquarters office with up to 50% expected travel for turnarounds, outages, emergency response, major projects, team development and maintenance, and site networking; or in Hugoton, KS with up to 25% travel to other sites.

SUMMARY: The Project Manager will oversee and manage medium-to-large-scale capital projects totaling approximately $30 million, spanning across three renewable fuels production facilities and one terminal distribution facility. The role will require close collaboration with Seaboard Energy's internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure projects are executed efficiently, within scope, on time, and within budget. The Project Manager will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, and technical integrity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and manage multi-facility capital projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Maintain technical oversight of all project phases, ensuring projects meet design specifications, quality standards, budget expectations, and schedule commitments.
  • Act as the authoritative resource on project matters, providing leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and contractors.
  • Coordinate and monitor the work of external contractors, vendors, and consultants, ensuring quality control and compliance with safety standards during the project execution phase.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope definitions, timelines, budgets, and resource allocations, and ensure successful execution of these plans.
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of project scope request packages, cost estimates, and project documentation.
  • Conduct regular project review meetings with cross-functional teams, senior leadership, and external stakeholders to monitor progress, resolve issues, and align on project priorities.
  • Maintain and continuously update the company's 1- and 5-year capital project portfolio, ensuring that projects are aligned with the organization's long-term strategic goals.
  • Manage and evaluate engineering contractors to ensure effective execution of projects and compliance with specifications.
  • Ensure that all engineering documentation, including equipment records, Bills of Materials, and project drawings, are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Oversee the implementation of Management of Change (MOC) processes for capital projects, ensuring that all changes are properly documented and aligned with project goals.
  • Ensure that all capital projects are executed in compliance with corporate policies, industry codes, and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders in the organization to identify and mitigate project risks, proactively addressing issues to keep projects on track.

  • B.S. degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university (prefer Mechanical Engineering).
  • Minimum of 8 years of project engineering/project management experience in upstream oil and gas or chemical manufacturing industries.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of unit operations in a refinery and familiarity with all major engineering disciplines.
  • Developed skills in technical writing, oral communication, cost estimation, preparation of drawings, project planning, supervision of personnel, and computers (spreadsheets, word processing, CAD).
  • Familiar with a stage gate project process to manage project activities.
  • Experience in managing contractor relationships.
  • Ability to influence without formal authority.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to move from place to place to all areas of production. Must be able to climb ladders or platforms and enter confined spaces. Must be able to wear all required safety equipment. Must be able to occasionally withstand hot or cold temperatures when working outdoors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position is primarily office based. Work environment varies from a office, plant production and outside climate conditions, based on the situation. The noise level varies depending on which area of production the employee is working in.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Days/M-F. The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Occasional changes in schedule may be required as special circumstances arise.
