Walker High School and Puyallup Online Academy are seeking a dynamic, student-centered educator for a combined 1.0 Social Studies teaching assignment. This unique split position includes 0.6 FTE at Walker High School and 0.4 FTE at Puyallup Online Academy, with both assignments housed at Walker High School. This position provides an exciting opportunity to support students through innovative, flexible, and engaging instructional practices across both in person and virtual learning environments. Primary courses include American History and World History, with potential opportunities to teach elective Social Studies courses. The ideal candidate will value relationship-based instruction, support individualized learning pathways, collaborate effectively with staff and families, and help students connect learning to future college, career, and life opportunities.

  • Washington State Social Studies endorsement required. Must be able to obtain a qualifying CTE endorsement by the 2027 2028 school year.

Must be able to be endorsed in the 27-28 school year in at least one of the following Vcodes:
V078000: Must complete an approved CTE Plan 1 University Route teacher preparation program in Business & Marketing. Must hold a bachelor's degree. Before the Initial CTE Certificate can be issued, applicant must also:
  • Apply for the Residency Teacher Certificate or add this endorsement to applicant's Basic Educator Certificate;
  • Successfully complete the Washington Educator Skills Test - Endorsement (WEST-E) or other approved content knowledge test in the specific subject area the candidate is recommended for by their educational institution;
  • Take the Washington Educator Skills Test - Basic (WEST-B) skills test in reading, writing, and math (or other approved test), if not already on file with OSPI; and
  • Verify 2,000 hours of non-teaching occupational experience in the Business & Marketing program area in the past 10 years.

OR
V210100: Must complete an approved CTE Plan 1 University Route teacher preparation program in Technology Education. Must hold a bachelor's degree. Before the Initial CTE Certificate can be issued, applicant must also:

V470110: Must complete an approved CTE Plan 2 Business & Industry Route teacher preparation program. Verification of 6,000 hours of occupational experience in one or more of the following: Computer programming, computer repair and maintenance, or network management.
OR
V521206: Must complete an approved CTE Plan 2 Business & Industry Route teacher preparation program. Verification of 6,000 hours of occupational experience with computer software, word, spreadsheets, data bases, web page design, network management, computer repair, OR computer programming.
Additional Requirements
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED and OSHA Trainer Certifications
  • Pass Criminal Background Fingerprinting with WSP and FBI
  • Successfully complete OSPI required training
