Job description

PS Job Title: Engineer I (Trans)

Work Place Flexibility: Onsite 

Legal Entity: Entergy Services, LLC 

 

Entergy’s Project Delivery Engineering Department is responsible for planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and operating over 16,000 miles of transmission lines and over 2,700 substations across the four-state territory. 

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Provides protection and control design engineering services for transmission and distribution substations, along with technical guidance and support to asset management and capital projects teams. The engineer would need to communicate and work well with multiple discipline teams to ensure project goals are met. He or she would be required to help technicians work through and trouble shoot AC power circuits, DC control circuits, and relay control logic problems. This position supports Arkansas, Texas, and Lake Charles regions, so travel and overnight stay would be requested on a per project basis or as needed.   

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working in a team environment in Relay Design on day-to-day activities including but not limited to: 

  • Participating in project scoping activities for substation projects at team site visits
  • Coordinating with design and construction organizations to develop project scope and estimate sheets
  • Performing engineering analysis/calculations to support relaying designs
  • Developing relaying design package based on project scoping and site visits
  • Identifying and procuring all required relaying project materials
  • Utilizing CAD software to create construction drawings for projects
  • Preparing relay operational one-line drawings
  • Validating estimating prices and equipment units, ensuring material is properly ordered and staged for upcoming projects
  • Supporting project schedules and processes by using activity tracking applications such as Primavera
  • Managing projects that are in construction
  • Completing as-built documentation
  • Participating in weekly planning coordination calls
  • Working on special projects to assist in improving grid reliability
  • Providing design oversite for contract engineering
  • Supporting activities pertaining to SERC/NERC standards compliance and other utility relations as required with focus around PRC and CIP standards
  • Responding to equipment failures
  • Supporting lab testing and operations
  • Providing technical support and protection system expertise in response to operational/commissioning requests from field personnel
  • Supporting business analytic processes through data mining and reporting, as well as performing a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis in transmission-related areas such as planning, economic analysis, maintenance, design, project management and construction, and operations
  • Assisting with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary
  • Traveling when required 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline from a four-year ABET-accredited institution.

Degrees in Engineering Technology from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.

Minimum experience required of the position:

Engineer I: 0 - 2 years of experience in an engineering discipline.

Engineer II: at least 2 - 4 years of experience in an engineering discipline.

Engineer III: at least 4 - 6 years of experience in an engineering discipline.

Engineer Sr: at least 6 years of experience in an engineering discipline.

Preferred: Relay design engineering experience

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:

  • Demonstrate ability to apply engineering principles.
  • Thorough understanding of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area.
  • Consistently demonstrate good engineering judgment.
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent math skills. Excellent project management skills.
  • Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.
