The Opportunity:

8 month work term: September 2026 - April 2027

12 month work term: September 2026 - August 2027 (preferred)

How You Will Contribute:

You will be joining the Coherent Modem Transmission Electro-Optic R&D group, a team responsible for developing the electro-optic transmission system for Ciena's coherent optical modems.

In this role, you will be a key contributor in developing the robust code required to transition our cutting-edge designs from the lab into a high-volume manufacturing environment.

You will:

  • Develop and maintain Matlab-based software for the automated factory calibration and test of coherent optical modems.
  • Interface with a wide range of optical test and measurement equipment.
  • Work closely with hardware and manufacturing engineers to define test procedures, gather requirements, and validate your code.
  • Analyze test data to verify performance and support the deployment of your software into Ciena's manufacturing facilities.

The Must Haves:

  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Strong programming proficiency in Matlab or another language.
  • Demonstrated understanding of core software development principles, including version control (e.g., Git) and debugging.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.

Assets:

  • Experience controlling hardware or test equipment programmatically.
  • Familiarity with optical communication systems or electro-optic devices.

Pay Range: The hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 - $34.00
