EMS is the largest and most academically diverse division in the School of Science and Engineering. The Division includes the Faculties of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Chemistry (CHEM), and Physics & Astronomy (P&A). EMS fosters cross-disciplinary collaborations in both research and education. The ME program in the EMS division offers the EAC-accredited BS, MS, and PhD degrees. Job Description
The Division of Energy, Matter, and Systems (EMS) in the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) is seeking applications for a non-tenure-track teaching faculty position in Mechanical Engineering at the Assistant Teaching Professor level, to start in the Spring Semester 2027 (January 2027). Candidates with backgrounds and expertise in all areas of Mechanical Engineering are encouraged to apply. Candidates with backgrounds and aspirations in teaching both basic and advanced Mechanical Engineering courses, particularly those with project-based approaches and laboratory-based courses, will be given preference.
The successful candidate is expected to:
  1. teach fundamental and specialized courses in ME;
  2. have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and transfer students;
  3. engage in departmental, school, or university services appropriate to the position; and
  4. advance the goals and strategic plans of UMKC.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline as of the start date or possess an M.Sc. in a relevant field combined with substantial industry experience.
Candidates with backgrounds and expertise in instrumentation, thermal sciences, robotics, and controls are particularly encouraged to apply.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. This is a nine-month, benefit-eligible, full-time (1.0 FTE) ranked faculty appointment eligible for promotion.
