Job description

Description Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Cybersecurity (0076363) Position Number - 0076363 Hiring Unit - University of Hawaii - West O`ahu Location - Kapolei, HI Date Posted - February 7, 2025 Closing Date - Continuous - application review begins April 10, 2025 Salary Information - Negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience Monthly Type - 9 month Tenure Track - Tenure Full Time/Part Time - Full Time Temporary/Permanent - Permanent Duties and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for primarily teaching courses in the Applied Science and Cybersecurity programs. The Cybersecurity program includes the Cyber Operations concentration and Applied Science program includes Information Technology (IT) and ISA (Information Security and Assurance) concentrations. The primary teaching responsibilities in the Cybersecurity and Applied Science programs will include courses in areas such as Digital Forensics, Proactive System Security, Modern Cyber Conflicts, Software System Security, Management of Information Security, IT Project Management, Network Security, and Topics in Information Security and Assurance.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: teaching courses in the identified areas, developing new relevant courses, providing academic advising, supervising practicum students, teach courses in person and using distance education technology (online), engaging in program assessment, assisting in enrollment management efforts aligned with Administration to support growth and development of the concentration, and fostering strong relationships with industry employers and alumni. The successful candidate is also expected to conduct research or applied scholarship in the discipline and to participate in faculty governance. Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (ADB candidates are eligible to apply but must complete all degree and minimum qualification requirements prior to appointment).

Five (5) years full-time professional (non-academic) experience at a public or private sector organization with demonstrated expertise and accomplishments in cybersecurity, computer engineering, computer science, or information technology. Evidence of high-quality teaching of information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, or information security and assurance courses in a two- or four-year undergraduate degree program. Demonstrated potential to conduct relevant scholarly and applied research.

Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications: In addition to minimum qualifications for the rank of Assistant Professor, five years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of Assistant Professor. Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals in cybersecurity, information security and assurance, or computer science. Desirable Qualifications: Ability and experience to effectively interact and teach in a multicultural setting.

Demonstrated ability to teach in person and distance education (online) courses. Specialization in Cybersecurity or Information Security and Assurance, including areas such as software security, trustworthy systems, information assurance, security and privacy, mobile and embedded security, computer forensics, security tools and visualization, cyber security, cyber operations or other related areas.
