Computer Technician (Part Time)
Summary
Position's primary focus may be in the areas of computer operations, user and desktop supportÂ
(hardware and software), and helpdesk.
 Utilizes computer equipment, software and diagnostic tools to perform a broad range of end userÂ
assistance, equipment maintenance and repair and computer operations assignments.
 Requires minimum supervision and may act as lead when the need arises.
 Updates supervisor on status of projects or technical issues.
 Exercises judgment and creativity in selecting and applying procedures correctly, and determinesÂ
when to refer problems to the supervisor or next level of support.
Requirements
Education: High school graduate or equivalent with data processing training, computer operationsÂ
training, or experience in a multi-operation system or production control environment preferred.
Skills and Experience: Two or more years of related experience with computers and providingÂ
customer service in a technological environment. May require the knowledge of a variety of hardwareÂ
as well as software, programming languages, and operating systems. May be tested on appropriateÂ
computer skills as required.
Duties
 Provides assistance in the use of personal computer hardware, and software;
 Sets up and configures desktop computers and portable devices;
 Installs software and installs and repairs hardware and peripherals;
 Troubleshoots, diagnoses problems, implements corrective action procedures within prescribedÂ
guidelines and/or escalates to other technical resources as appropriate;
 Transfers computer files between platforms ; Provides basic troubleshooting, repair andÂ
maintenance for computer equipment (e.g. microcomputers, disk drives, and laser printers) and mayÂ
assist with testing personal computers and peripherals on a network to diagnose, hardware versusÂ
software problems
 Acts as a customer liaison for the computing operation, communicating, resolving, and/orÂ
initiating the resolution of problems and concerns;
 Maintains records;
 Contributes to unit goals by accomplishing related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
 Extensive knowledge of computer hardware and software installation procedures.
 Knowledge of all school district personal computer and software applications.
 Understanding of current operating platforms, computer hardware and associated peripherals, andÂ
software applications.
 Ability to inspect, assess, troubleshoot and repair computer hardware and software.
 Ability to work independently.
 Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of end-users.
 Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
 Ability to report work orally and/or in writing to supervisor.
 Ability to establish and, maintain cooperative working relationship with, staff and othersÂ
contacted in the course of work.
 Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
 Travel Requirements:
Travel to school district locations to repair hardware, install software and assist end users.
 Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned.

SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT PERIOD
