Job description

Objective:

Develops programs for fabricating parts on 3, 4, and 5axis highspeed CNC machines. Working from customer designs and specifications, determine machining requirements and prepare CNC programs to manufacture tighttolerance parts. Maximizes machine efficiency by determining optimum cutter paths.

Special Work Conditions & ADA Requirements:

  • Highlevel exposure to computer screen
  • Constant repetitive use of hands, wrists, and arms
  • Some shop floor exposure

Level I

Major Activities Performed (All Job Levels):

  • Set up and program simple parts and tooling
  • Windowsbased PC
  • CAD/CAM software (e.g., Catia V5)
  • Verification software (e.g., Vericut)
  • CAM programming software (e.g., Mastercam)

Typical Job Knowledge:

  • General manufacturing knowledge
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand blueprints, mylars, and related documents
  • Knowledgeable of feeds, speeds, cutter types, and material removal methods for specific materials
  • Familiar with machine codes
  • Demonstrate good communication skills
  • Solid math, reading, and writing skills due to the high level of systems
  • Ability to plan detailed sequence of operations for programs and provide sufficient documentation
  • Work from written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to program 34 axis parts using CAD/CAM software

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanical aptitude and good work ethic desired
  • 23 years manufacturing experience (CNC machine operator) preferred
  • Ability to use internal manufacturing software systems

Level II

Major Activities Performed (in addition to Level I):

  • Set up and program complex 5axis parts
  • Tooling design

Typical Job Knowledge (in addition to Level I):

  • Good manufacturing knowledge of machining and other related processes
  • Basic knowledge of SPC
  • Good logic and organizational skills to manage simultaneous multiple tasks
  • Ability to program 3, 4, and 5axis parts and design tooling using CAD/CAM software
  • Ability to utilize verification software (e.g., Vericut)
  • Ability to utilize posting software
  • Assist manufacturing with improving processes

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college or equivalent experience in a related field preferred
  • Certified training in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Catia) or equivalent job training experience
  • 5+ years programming experience preferred
  • 35 years manufacturing experience preferred
  • Ability to use internal manufacturing software systems

Level III

Major Activities Performed (in addition to Level I & II):

  • Model parts from 2D drawings and loft data
  • Tooling design for complex parts and assemblies
  • Selfdirected and motivated
  • Work directly with multiple departments
  • Work directly with multiple levels of management

Typical Job Knowledge (in addition to Level I & II):

  • Capable of monitoring work performed by CNC Programmers
  • Ability to plan detailed sequence of operations for programs and provide sufficient documentation
  • Ability to assist planning with workrelated issues

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college or equivalent experience in a related field preferred
  • Certified training in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Catia) or equivalent job training experience
  • 10+ years programming experience preferred
  • 510 years manufacturing experience preferred
  • Ability to use internal manufacturing software systems
