Job Summary

Cooperworks Industries is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAD/CAM Designer to join our team. This position is responsible for creating detailed shop drawings, engineering production-ready designs, and developing CNC programs for the manufacturing of commercial casework, countertops, fixtures, millwork, and laminated products.


The ideal candidate will possess strong CAD drafting skills, experience with CAM software and CNC manufacturing processes, and the ability to collaborate with sales, project management, and production teams to efficiently move projects from design through fabrication.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed shop drawings, production drawings, assembly drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Interpret architectural plans, specifications, and project requirements to develop accurate manufacturing drawings.
  • Develop CNC-ready programs, nesting layouts, and machining files for production equipment.
  • Generate bills of materials (BOMs), cut lists, and material utilization reports.
  • Optimize designs for manufacturability, production efficiency, and material yield.
  • Collaborate with sales, estimating, project management, and production teams to ensure project requirements are accurately reflected in manufacturing documents.
  • Review drawings and CNC programs for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Revise and update drawings and machining programs based on project changes, customer feedback, and field conditions.
  • Coordinate material specifications, hardware selections, dimensions, and construction details.
  • Maintain drawing standards, revision control procedures, and organized project records.
  • Provide technical support to production, CNC operators, and installation teams.
  • Assist with process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives within manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure all design and programming deliverables are completed accurately and within project deadlines.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or other CAD software.
  • Experience with CAM software and CNC programming.
  • Ability to create CNC-ready files, nesting layouts, and machining programs.
  • Strong understanding of commercial casework, cabinetry, architectural millwork, laminate products, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, construction documents, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Cabinet Vision, Microvellum, Mozaik, Alphacam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of laminates, wood products, hardware, CNC machining, and fabrication methods is highly desirable.

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Drafting, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in CAD/CAM design, CNC programming, commercial casework, millwork, cabinetry, or related manufacturing industries.
  • Experience creating shop drawings and CNC programs for commercial projects preferred.
  • Familiarity with architectural specifications and commercial construction documents.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment is strongly preferred.
