Job description

CNC MACHINE OPERATOR
DEPARTMENT: Machining
REPORTS TO: Production Manager
PURPOSE: The machine operator is responsible for operating computer numerical control and/or manual machines to machine parts.
The machine operator loads parts in the machine, cycleโ€™s machine and detects malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. The position runs production lots, communicates with co-workers regarding productions runs, and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment. This position covers all machine operators at Faxon Machining.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs all assigned machine shop operations
  • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designee
  • Follows tag system, quality procedures and completes all relevant in-process inspection forms
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures
  • Performs inspection of machined products, and documents results
  • Completes and maintains paperwork for parts
  • Understand all blueprint/operation drawing features before cutting chips
  • Understands job quotas established in router or as instructed
  • Ensure all gages used are calibrated and in good working order
  • Use of overhead crane for loading and unloading parts into machine
  • Perform general maintenance on machine such as changing coolant, oils and other lubricants
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent or 5-7 years experience as a CNC Machine Operator
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Willing to learn to become proficient in operating applicable equipment
  • Good attitude
  • Quality oriented
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position requires frequent lifting, pushing and pulling objects that are 50 pounds or heavier.
