The Enterprise Protective Services (EPS) Summer Digital Forensics Investigator Internship is a professional development opportunity for currently enrolled college students interested in expanding their knowledge and skills in digital forensics investigations.

Interns will gain hands-on experience through a variety of business and technical assignments while developing an understanding of Duke Energy's operations and security programs. In addition to practical work experience, interns will have the opportunity to network with fellow interns and experienced professionals across the organization.

In this role, interns may have the opportunity to:

  • Learn and apply digital forensics tools, software, and analytical methods
  • Develop an understanding of investigative processes and techniques
  • Assist with digital forensics investigations
  • Apply investigative techniques, scientific reasoning, and digital forensic methodologies to answer complex questions
  • Conduct research and perform investigative analysis
  • Support the collection, analysis, and interpretation of digital evidence

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in and pursuing one of the following degree programs:
    • Cybersecurity, with a concentration or interest in Digital Forensics
    • Criminal Justice or Criminal Justice Technology, with a concentration or interest in Digital Forensics
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • Must not graduate prior to August 2027.

Desired Qualifications:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Previous Internship Experience
  • Minor in psychology
  • Demonstrated leadership through extracurricular activities, work experience, or community involvement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn
  • Community service or volunteer experience
  • Coursework or project experience related to cybersecurity, digital forensics, or data security
  • Exposure to or familiarity with:
  • Computer networking and telecommunications
  • Operating systems and database administration
  • Application design and development
  • Information security concepts such as intrusion detection, firewalls, and data protection
  • Data analytics and visualization tools, including Power BI
