Reports to: Senior Director of Operations
Mission
Genesys Works is a nonprofit organization that trains and employs high school seniors to perform professional services for major corporations. Our mission is to provide pathways to career success for high school students in underserved communities through skills, training, meaningful work experiences, and impactful relationships.
Purpose of Position
The purpose of the Technical Trainer position is to provide relevant, engaging technical training to high school students to prepare them for internships at major corporations. The trainer is responsible for teaching and assessing students in the use of Microsoft Office programs as well as basic accounting and IT principles. The trainer will lead, motivate, supervise, and mentor youth to support their development into workforce-ready young professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Utilize Genesys Works' curriculum to teach groups of 20-25 young professionals the fundamentals of business technology during our Summer Training
  • Prepare students to enter and succeed in the corporate environment by covering subjects such as corporate structure, professional communication, calendar management, presentations, customer service, and the fundamentals of accounting and information technology
  • Assign and grade student quizzes, tests, presentations, and/or demonstrations promptly through LMS system, Schoology
  • Develop trusting relationships with our young professionals through mentoring and encouragement, providing feedback and one-on-one coaching when necessary
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinators in monitoring summer training performance and provide input to support decisions regarding which students earn an internship

Instructional Abilities
  • Deliver technical curriculum, adapting and differentiating based on student need ? Reinforce students' professional skill development including effective communication, reliability, dependability, and adaptation to corporate culture
  • Effectively maintain a growth mindset with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds
  • Cultivate a positive learning environment with classroom management and engagement strategies
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Provide timely and effective feedback to support professional development

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • MS Office experience
  • Experience teaching computer skills, business principles, accounting, and/or information technology OR relevant work experience as a business or IT professional
  • Proficiency in using online meeting tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • Knowledge of or experience with business technologies: Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel), computer networkers, servers, operating systems, and information security
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong presence and leadership in a classroom setting
  • Heart, humor, and a commitment to our youth development mission
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion and proven ability to work with diverse populations

Physical Requirements
Including, but not limited to standing and sitting for long periods of time; speaking loudly and clearly; reaching, stooping, and kneeling; and fine-finger and hand manipulation in the use of a computer, dry-erase board, or projector. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading. Most work environments are climate-controlled, open space floor plans.
