Position Overview

The PC Build Technician Intern provides hands-on support for the preparation, configuration, deployment, and lifecycle management of computer systems and IT equipment. Working alongside experienced engineers, the intern will gain practical experience with PC hardware, system imaging and configuration, inventory and asset management, technical documentation, ticketing systems, and IT service delivery.

This internship is designed to provide exposure to a professional IT services environment while developing the technical, organizational, and customer-service skills necessary for a future career in IT support, desktop engineering, or infrastructure operations.


Key Responsibilities

PC Building, Configuration & Deployment

  • Assist with the assembly, preparation, configuration, and deployment of desktops, laptops, and related IT equipment.
  • Install and configure approved hardware components, operating systems, applications, and peripheral devices under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Assist with system imaging, updates, configuration, and quality assurance testing prior to deployment.
  • Verify that systems meet established build standards and customer requirements before delivery.
  • Perform basic hardware troubleshooting and escalate more complex issues to the appropriate engineer.
  • Prepare equipment for onsite or remote deployment.
  • On site deployment of configured equipment.

Logistics & Asset Management

  • Assist with shipping and receiving computers, peripherals, and other IT equipment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and asset records.
  • Track equipment throughout the build, staging, deployment, return, and decommissioning lifecycle.
  • Organize and maintain PC build, inventory, and staging areas.
  • Assist with equipment labeling, asset tagging, packaging, and shipment preparation.
  • Support the secure processing and decommissioning of end-of-life equipment according to established procedures.

Ticketing & Service Management

  • Create, update, and maintain service tickets associated with PC builds, deployments, equipment requests, and asset activities.
  • Document work performed, equipment information, configuration details, and status updates accurately within the ticketing system.
  • Monitor assigned work and ensure tasks are completed within established timelines.

Documentation & Process Improvement

  • Follow established PC build procedures, checklists, and quality-control standards.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining technical documentation, build instructions, customer-specific configuration requirements, and internal knowledge articles.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and consistency of PC build and inventory processes.
  • Learn and follow organizational standards for documentation, security, equipment handling, and customer data.

Customer & Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with cb20 PC Build Engineer and customers to coordinate equipment preparation and deployment.
  • Assist with gathering information needed to complete PC builds and equipment requests.
  • Provide professional and timely communication regarding assigned tasks.
  • Develop an understanding of how customer requirements are translated into standardized technical configurations.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and other learning opportunities.

Skills & Competencies

  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and peripheral devices.
  • Strong interest in information technology and a desire to develop hands-on technical skills.

Education & Experience

  • Coursework, personal PC-building experience, technical labs, certifications, or other hands-on technology experience is a plus.
