Job description

NJ Conservation Foundation (NJCF) is seeking candidates to engage local communities and help obtain a "Bird City" designation through the State Wildlife Action Plan and the Bird City Network for Jersey City and/or the surrounding areas. They will also lend support to relevant advocacy efforts that support NJCF's overall mission of preserving land and natural resources throughout New Jersey for the benefit of all.
We are seeking an intern to assist primarily with the following:
  • Create and lead a Bird City team for Jersey City / Hudson County, which will seek to:
    • Increase and improve habitat for plants and animals
    • Reduce threats to birds and other wildlife
    • Promote sustainability and climate resilience
  • Gain municipal support for a Bird City designation through a resolution
  • Engage residents and visitors around conservation and sustainability issues
  • Interface with existing and potential partners on key issues

Qualities that are important for success in this role include:
  • Knowledge of relevant issues, particularly as they relate to bird conservation, engagement, and local government
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Outgoing personality and the ability to work with a broad spectrum of partners and community members
  • Success and enjoyment working in teams
  • Excellent writing & communication skills

The work for this position will require 10 hours of work per week over 10 weeks in a remote work environment. The internship will include regular check-ins with NJCF staff to report on progress, successes, and challenges. The internship requires access to a phone and computer. Pay rate is $20 per hour.
