Job description

SAIC is seeking a Network Technician to support an IT Service Management effort for USTRANSCOM located at Scott Air Force Base (AFB) in Illinois.  The USTC Managed Information Technology Services (MITS) contract is intended to provide strategic, technical, and program management guidance and support services to facilitate the operations and modernization of the combatant command's infrastructure, systems, and applications. This support will be provided to the USTC Command, Control, Communications & Cyber Systems Directorate (TCJ6).

The successful candidate works on high-visibility or mission critical aspects of a given program and performs all functional duties independently; oversees the efforts of less senior staff and/or is responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops strategy and the design infrastructure necessary to support that strategy. 
  • Technical expertise in common routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), IPv6, VPN, etc. across a global WAN backbones and distributed datacenter platforms.   
  • Advises on selection of technological purchases with regards to processing, data storage, data access, and applications development.
  • Sets standards for the client/server relational database structure for the organization (SQL, ORACLE, SYBASE, etc.).  
  • Advises of feasibility of potential future projects to management. 
  • Install and maintain the network transport medium (i.e., fiber, wireless, copper) to include user access drops at the desk location.  
  • Responsible to operate, maintain, and manage both secure and non-secure wireless communication infrastructure equipment, network connectivity and service. 
  • Coordinate and perform cryptographic circuit maintenance. 
  • Coordinate and perform planned upgrades, minimizing disruption of day-to-day operations. 
  • Collect and report Network Availability Metrics on a recurring and adhoc basis. 
  • Provide support for Domain Name Server (DNS) and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) capability.
  • Configure and manage Internet Protocol (IP) address space and Virtual LANs (VLAN), issue IP addresses for new equipment and workstations, and troubleshoot IP address issues with outside agencies. 
  • Review and provide technical solution recommendations, and selection of technological purchases, for network centric service requests. 
  • Document and maintain accurate technical documentation for enterprise network, such as architecture diagrams (physical and logical), equipment room layouts with rack elevation diagrams, inside and outside plant specifications, and hardware configuration utilizing government provided tools. 
  • Adhere to processes established for the team to ensure success in meeting service level agreements.
  • Respond to incidents, and provide after action support.

This position is for Monday through Friday, normal business hours.  However, employee may be required to provide after-hours and weekend support during planned or emergency events.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Four (4) or more years of experience
  • DoD Secret clearance. 
  • Ability to acquire a DoD TS/SCI clearance.
  • Must have at least one of these IAT Level II certifications: Security+, CECCNA-Security, CySA+ **, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP.
  • Must have at least one Computing Environment (CE) certification or certificate for the technical area of responsibility for Network support/defense (e.g., Splunk, Cisco, McAfee, etc.).
  • Experience installing and maintaining networks in a DoD environment which adhere to security requirements.  
  • Technical expertise in common routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), IPv6, VPN, etc. across a global WAN backbones and distributed datacenter platforms.   
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation. 
  • Experience with MS Office toinclude Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Exce.
  • Ability to manage multiple, high, & competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment. 
  • Ability to communicate IT, networking, and security concepts to personnel at all levels of experience and responsibility.

Desired Qualifications:

  • ITIL Foundations V4 certification.
