Job Description

Position: Network Engineer

Location: Caledonia, OH

Duration: 6 Month Contractย 

This position is responsible for all inside plant planning and engineering functions within the seven designated local area markets (LAM) in Ohio. This includes inside plant planning and engineering designs, budgets, schedules, & records for the assigned CAFII projects. The engineer will create designs that support the FCC requirements for the CAFII. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):


  • Responsible for planning, designing, upgrading and extending support of the network
  • Project preparation, job specifications and drawings in order to accomplish departmental & company objectives.
  • Systems required include but are not limited to the following: Infinium, Varasset, M6, DPI, DSLNet, NMARS, COVango, ISIS, & CLLI Code Request.
  • Work with CAFII planning teams to deploy CAFII projects on schedule
  • Provides technical assistance to installation, central office, maintenance, construction, and OSP personnel to ensure seamless CAFII deployments
  • Maintain accurate equipment & network map records
  • Knowledge and expertise with SONET, ROADM, HSI, network optimization, and MPLS network builds in order to efficiently utilize the network when planning CAFII network augments.
  • Work closely with vendors & centralized planning on technical specifications related to products used in the delivery of CAFII. This includes the need to clearly understand documented EGLs (engineering guidelines).
  • Will need to able to travel occasionally to conduct site walks, meet internal or external customers, or meet with internal leadership.
  • Strong English-language written and oral communications skills. Must be comfortable presenting and be able to provide appropriate level of materials to all audiences - executive, engineering, marketing, and customer.
  • Working knowledge of Power Point, Microsoft Word and Excel

Required Skills

Must possess a strong technical understanding in network planning and engineering. This includes planning and engineering IOF transport as well as IP DSLAMs. Must possess strong communications skills, both verbal, written and presentation, be PC literate and understand the engineering budgeting process. Must be able to adapt quickly including the ability to deal with change, stress, & conflict. Must be able to multitask and quickly adapt to changing priorities. At least 4 years of experience in transport architecture, design and implementation roles in large scale transport networks or a four year degree in electronics or computer sciences.
