Job Description:

Summary

Illinois Central College is seeking an individual to be responsible for teaching courses in the Network Administrator degree program at the College. This position will also work closely with department networking faculty and industry in aligning curriculum to establish career pathways by working with high schools and transfer institutions. This program tract is aligned to several industry certifications ranging from Microsoft Windows and Server administration, as well as various certifications from CompTIA, VMware, Cisco, and Amazon AWS. Preference will be given to individuals possessing industry certifications in these areas. Responsibilities will also include advising students; serving on departmental and institutional committees; maintaining curriculum; and developing new programs and courses as the industry changes.

This position will be expected to teach the following courses:

  • Windows Administration
  • Security Essentials- Security+
  • AWS Cloud Foundations

Essential Functions

1. Prepare syllabi, instruction materials, coordinates lectures, tests, and assessments. Organize courses with practical and technical instruction involving demonstration of the skills required by the industry, lectures on theory, practices, methods, processes, and terminology.
2. Teach courses in assigned course and assesses learning outcomes. Instructs students by explaining, demonstrating, and overseeing exercises and providing advice on immediate topics.
3. Plan and supervise work of students in the classroom or laboratory setting.
4. Seek professional development to remain current with workforce trends, emerging technology, and the latest teaching tools. Maintain professional skills through regular professional development, and other activities appropriate to higher education faculty.
5. Collaboratively work with full-time and adjunct faculty members.
6. Maintain highest possible standards of classroom instruction.
7. Actively serve on college committees.
8. Actively participate in institutional meetings.
9. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Networking, Computer Information Technology, or another computer-related field; OR Bachelor's degree with industry recognized certifications and 6000 hours work experience within the last five years; OR Associate's Degree in Computer Networking or Computer Information Technology and 6,000 hours experience in computer networking within the last 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master's degree-with course work in computers and networking.
2. Community college teaching or industry training experience.
3. Experience working with students in a computer-based lab.
4. Experience teaching and developing courses.
5. Familiarity with Test Out and similar content delivery systems.
6. Current Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, AWS, VMware certifications and teaching experience in these areas a plus.
7. Preference given to applicants with coursework and experience in network security, cybersecurity, virtualization, and cloud technologies.


If a selected candidate does not have a current industry certification, they will need to obtain one within the first year of employment. ICC will work with the individual in selecting an appropriate credential and supporting them to attain it.
