Responsibilities:

  • Under direction, patrol and inspect electric utility rights-of-way and identify vegetation requiring maintenance to meet applicable specifications and guidelines.
  • Under direction, locate property owners and inform them of work to be performed
  • Mark vegetation in field to identify necessary work and record this work on applicable forms, documents, maps, or in other data collection systems and prepare work documents.
  • Under direction, communicate work to be performed to the vegetation contractors.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Work Planner 1:

  • Associate degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, Horticulture, or related field preferred.
  • Good verbal, written, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and professionally.

Work Planner 2: Must meet or exceed the requirements listed for Work Planner 1

  • Assist with contractor work packets and notifications.
  • Conduct work audits and quality reviews.
  • Investigate customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Support storm restoration efforts.
  • Mentor and assist less experienced personnel.
  • Associateโ€™s degree in forestry, Horticulture, or a related field or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Minimum 9 months of successful Work Planner I performance or 4 years of related utility vegetation management experience.
  • Basic knowledge of tree species, utility systems, and vegetation management practices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Completion of customer experience training and pursuit of required certifications.

Work Planner 3: Must meet or exceed the requirements listed for Work Planner 2

  • Mentor and provide guidance to Work Planner I and II personnel.
  • Assist with training and development initiatives.
  • Support quality assurance and planning consistency.
  • Provide technical expertise and problem-solving support.
  • Promote operational excellence and safety leadership.
  • Demonstrated expertise in utility vegetation management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven record of accurate and thorough work planning.
  • Ability to mentor others and work with minimal supervision.
  • Associateโ€™s degree in Forestry, Horticulture, or a related field or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Actively pursuing ISA Arborist Certification and other required credentials.

Physical Demands, Conditions, Work Environment

  • Employee must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time.
  • Work alone in an outdoor field environment; vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines; remote locations as well as urban, city environment; physical demands and travel from site to site, including walking/hiking on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills, and slopes; exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions.

Physical

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment:

  • walk, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods of time;
  • frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties;
  • carry, push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (5 to 10 lbs.);
  • operate assigned equipment and vehicles;
  • verbally communicate to exchange information with public;
  • see and hear in normal range with or without correction;
  • operate assigned field equipment, including handheld computer, range finder, water backpack, shovel, and traffic cone.
