Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, configures, install, test, maintain, troubleshoot and repair computer systems and peripheral equipment; provide guidance to users in proper operation and care of hardware, software and peripheral equipment.
SUPERVISION:
Receives supervision from Director of Information Technology, or designee.
Positions in this classification exercise no supervision.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Installs, maintains, and updates a variety of client operating systems and devices
  • Provides support to district users, parents, students, and others as required
  • Configures and sets up external devices such as printers, audio-visual equipment, mobile carts and charging stations, and other external devices for computers
  • Sets up, installs, replaces, and maintains computer and related equipment in a large multi-vendor enterprise networked environment
  • Provides technical support in the troubleshooting and resolution of problems with client device hardware, network connectivity, software, and peripherals
  • Diagnose defects in equipment and performs skilled work in repair of various user devices
  • Consults with and make recommendations to sites when parts for repairs or new equipment are needed
  • Supports the installation, use-of, and maintenance of any District applications and other software
  • Use technology support tools such as telephone, remote viewing or control software, and other remote district deployment and support tools to provide technical assistance to all users
  • Creates, develops, and maintains internal technical knowledge base articles
  • Evaluates and tests new hardware, application programs and provides feedback
  • Provide guidance, training, and instructions to other technicians
  • Provides possible recommendations and solutions to departmental manager concerning enhancements to hardware and software
  • Utilize ticketing system to enter and manage work requests
  • Serves as a liaison between schools and departments to coordinate activities, exchange information, and resolve issues
  • Assist with inventory audits as needed
  • Performs job related duties as assigned

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience and Education/Training (These are the minimum experience and education/training standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for examination.)
Two (2) years of paid full-time experience working as a computer support technician supporting multiple sites with a variety of computer equipment, operating systems, and applications software in a multi-vendor environment.
High school graduation or the equivalent.
Licenses/Certificates/Registrations (Must be submitted upon offer of employment and maintained throughout employment in this position):
An appropriate, valid California driver's license and auto liability insurance.
