Job Overview
Lab Tech, Department of Neurology - Georgetown University Medical Center
The Visual Perception & Plasticity Lab led by Dr. Tina Liu at Georgetown University Medical Center, has an opening for a full-time Lab Technician. Our lab studies neuroplasticity in healthy and clinical populations across the lifespan using a combination of psychophysics, eye tracking, fMRI, non-invasive brain stimulation, computational modeling, online crowdsourcing "big data", developmental and neuropsychological approaches.
We are part of the Department of Neurology and Center for Brain Plasticity and Recovery on the gorgeous campus of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. The Department of Neurology is proudly affiliated with MedStar Health and participates in the Georgetown Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience (IPN), a Ph.D. program within Biomedical Graduate Education at Georgetown University.
Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate research involving stroke patients, epilepsy patients, and healthy volunteers
  • Assist with experimental design, programming, experiment setup, and data analysis volunteers
  • Conduct behavioral, fMRI, and brain stimulation experiments in stroke patients and healthy
  • Conduct behavioral and fMRI experiments in epilepsy patients and healthy volunteers
  • Oversee day-to-day lab operations

Work Interactions
Reporting directly to the lab PI, Dr. Tina Liu, this role is integral in coordinating and facilitating neuroscience research activities within and beyond the Visual Perception & Plasticity Lab. The position involves close collaboration with IPN faculty members, neurologists, and neuro-ophthalmologists in the Department of Neurology, contributing to a collaborative environment that advances our understanding of neurological disorders. The Department of Neurology is proudly affiliated with MedStar Health and is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge via research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders. This position not only supports the research goals of the Neurology Department but also aligns with Georgetown University Medical Center's four-part mission of research, teaching, service and patient care (provided through a partnership with MedStar Health).
Requirements and Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree is required before the start of this position. A major in Neuroscience, Psychology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field is preferred
  • Prior experience in human neuroscience research, esp. neuroimaging techniques, is strongly preferred.
  • Basic computer skills are required, good programming skills in MATLAB or Python will be a plus, but not required, as it can be learned in the lab.

This is a fully-funded position that comes with full benefits. Initial appointment is for 1 year, but can be renewed for up to 3 years.

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$44,022.00 - $73,406.80
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
