Job description

Summary

The Fine Arts Computer Lab Monitor is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and smooth operation of the Fine Arts computer labs (Adrian 216, 217, and 218). This includes maintaining vigilance at all times, contacting the Public Safety Department in cases of emergencies, suspicious activity, or unauthorized individuals, and reporting any unoccupied and unlocked studios. The Lab Monitor also helps maintain an orderly, respectful, and productive environment where students can focus on their creative work.

In addition to safety oversight, the Lab Monitor provides students-primarily in Visual Arts, Graphic Design, and Photography-with technical support on software and equipment such as Adobe Creative Suite, printers, and scanners. While they assist with technical troubleshooting and project needs, Lab Monitors are not responsible for teaching content, or evaluating/critiquing the artistic or academic content of student work. Their role is to support student success by ensuring the labs remain secure, functional, and welcoming spaces for creativity and learning.

Essential Functions

1. The lab monitor must maintain vigilance at all times for the safety and well being of students and facilities.

2. Must be responsible to open the doors of ADR 216, 217 and 218 for students enrolled in those classes and lock up at the end of lab hours. The studio monitor will also notify Public Safety when any unlocked areas are found unoccupied.

3. The lab monitor will help maintain the facilities and keep printers operational.

4. The lab monitor will provide students with technical assistance with their projects. They will not teach content, or be evaluators or judges of content of the student projects. Must be cordial and friendly with the students they are assisting.

5. Must enforce all lab policies and report any problems to Faculty or Lab Technicians. Encourage and asssist in keeping the facilities clean and orderly. Conserve resources by turing off lights, water, equipment, etc. when not needed.

6. Must be able to follow instructions well (for example: turning off all equipment).

7. Must be reliable and responsible. If absent or running late for his or her assigned hours, the F.A. Studio Monitor is responsible to arrange substitution with one of the other F.A. Lab Monitors.

8. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

9. Notify Faculty of supply shortages, such as ink cartridges and paper.

10. Enforce student sign-in and sign-out policy.
