Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Head of Lab Technology Platforms will support the strategic and operational advancement of Baylor Genetics' laboratory technology infrastructure. This role will focus on optimizing bioinformatics pipelines, data systems and LIMS, and facilitating QA, QM activities to ensure scalable, efficient, and compliant genomic computational operations. The Head will collaborate cross-functionally to implement technology solutions that enhance throughput, reduce turnaround times, and support innovation in clinical diagnostics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deploy software tools from external/internal groups and make sure they fit the system requirements.
  • Responsible for daily bioinformatics pipeline performance.
  • Strong support for daily pipeline maintenance to ensure an E2E process is up and running.
  • Collaborate with lab operations to ensure technology infrastructure meets performance, scalability, and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor system performance and uptime and drive continuous improvement initiatives across lab technology platforms.
  • Oversee deployment and integration of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to streamline sample tracking, reporting, and workflow automation.
  • Implement and support data analysis tools for processing genomic and laboratory datasets, enabling insights through visualization, statistical modeling, and performance monitoring.
  • Assist in deploying cloud-based solutions for laboratory data management and connectivity.
  • Ensure lab technology platforms adhere to regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, HIPAA).
  • Support quality assurance and validation processes for new instruments and automation systems.
  • Maintain documentation and SOPs related to lab technology systems.
  • Work closely with bioinformatics, IT, and clinical teams to align lab technology with broader genomics and informatics strategies.
  • Serve various stakeholders to meet TAT.
  • Work with QMS to take CAPA.
  • Lead a technical team of bioinformaticians and programmers.
  • Cross-Functional and fast-paced teamwork. Timely communication with various stakeholders and corporate leaders.
  • Support professional development and training initiatives within the lab technology team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline (Master's preferred).
  • Strong software engineering skills and strong project management experience.
  • Familiar with bioinformatics and genomics pipelines.
  • Experience in production environment in both on-prem HPC and cloud computing.
  • Familiar with high throughput genomic technologies.
  • Familiar with wet-lab workflow.
  • Strong communication skills are required.
  • This is an onsite position (Houston TX).
  • Familiar with Bioinformatics Software and QA requirements.
  • Experience with CLIA/CAP-regulated environments and laboratory systems integration.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred:
Master Degrees or above in relevant areas
  • 5+ years senior leadership experience in genomic diagnostics industry or related industry are preferred.
