The Monitor Tech works under the supervision or direction of a Registered Nurse or other licensed personnel, and provides bedside patient care in the Emergency Room and is an integral part of the care team. The Monitor Tech must demonstrate behaviors consistent with Catholic Health's model of patient care.
Job Details
Responsibilities
  • Appropriately performs phlebotomy & EKG's-will assist with transporting, lifting, pulling, boosting patient up to 50 lbs. for patient positioning while using proper body mechanics.
  • Monitor technician will place patient on cardiac monitor. This will require bending/lifting and reaching arms above head to bedside and central station monitoring equipment.
  • Maintains and cleans department equipment and supplies to appropriately monitor patient and maintains current knowledge of ED technology.
  • Ensures lab specimens are transported to the lab in a timely manner
  • Completes STAT orders in a timely manner
  • Completes EKG prior to blood work
  • Observes, interprets, reports and assists immediately for any changes in cardiac rhythms (irregular heartbeats, arrhythmias, Cardiac arrest) Changes are to be reported to the RN and Physician/APP.
  • Troubleshoot alarms at central alarm station and at bedside to adjust if indicated, with consultation of nursing &/or physician.
  • Appropriately documents and updates patient information into central monitoring station using two patient identifiers. Records rhythms for review and documents in the EMR. Reports any necessary equipment repairs in a timely manner
  • Remains at central monitoring station unless otherwise directed by Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager or designee
  • Assisting with the training of new staff in medical monitoring systems.
  • Technical will assist with the overall ED flow and provide excellent customer service to create a positive patient experience for the ED patients.
  • Ability to remain calm in high stress situations and use proper communication skills

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent. Paramedic or EMT CC preferred program or NA/ MA with ability to read to telemetry monitors
  • Knowledge of computer systems and/or prior clerical experience preferred; Basic knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy; Strong communication skills, flexibility, and ability to prioritize work
  • Min one-year phlebotomy experience
  • Current BLS Provider certification from the American Heart Association
